ADVENT STUDY with Pastor Steve

Pastor Steve is leading a Monday night Advent Study in the Gathering Room for 4 sessions, beginning Monday Nov. 27 at 7:00 pm and ending on December 18th.

We will use new curriculum written by United Methodist pastor and  author Rachel Billups:  "An Unlikely Advent - Extraordinary People of the Christmas Story".

"This study focuses on the experiences of four sets of often overlooked characters in the Nativity story.  . . the author guides readers through the themes of hope, love, joy, and peace by sharing the stories of Elizabeth and Zechariah, Herod, the Magi, and the shepherds.  Each set of unexpected characters has something to teach about living faithfully on the journey to Christmas."

Students should purchase their student book/ebook online at sites such as

http://www.Cokesbury.com

Please sign up in the Gathering Room or by contacting the church office 630-554-3269

The ACE Class will start the Advent Study,

Awaiting the Already: An Advent Journey Through the Gospels,

by Magrey deVega on Sunday, November 26 at 9:30 am in the Meditation Room.  Why do we spend four weeks of Advent pretending that Jesus has not been born when we know full well that he has? Awaiting the Already is a study that  addresses that question. During this study, you'll discover what parts of the Christmas story come from which Gospel and uncover the tension between the past and the future in your own life.  Each chapter provides questions for reflection or discussion, a brief prayer, and a focus for the upcoming week.  Obtain your own copy of the book or ask Janet McCarty, the leader, to order one for you.  Join our discussion.

BOOK CLUB: If you like to read, please join the Good Shepherd Book Club. Our next book is Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. We will meet Tuesday, Dec. 12th at 2pm at Nancy Patush's house.

GRACE CIRCLE is working on a "Pastor Picture Project," hoping to display as many as possible of the 61 pastors of Good Shepherd (1862-2023) on the wall in the hallway leading into Fellowship Hall. Roger Matile has found 10 pastor pictures for us from various years, starting with 1869 and ending with 1930. We have found pictures of thirteen of the more recent pastors, so we have a ways to go. If anyone has pictures of Rev. Victor Schroeder, Rev. Dale Lundberg, or Rev. James Bunch, please let us know. And - if anyone would like to help with this project, please get in contact with us. HISTORICAL COMMITTEE: The Historical Committee is in the process of updating, organizing, and digitizing the Church's documents and pictures with the intent of producing an updated historical book of our Church. We are wondering if anyone in the congregation has any experience with digitizing and is willing to help us in this endeavor. Also, if anyone is interested in helping with the organization, please contact Pam Roberts (630) 479-9635. Thank you

You are invited to join us for a UNITED Methodist Prairie Central District Advent Event to be held at Grace UMC, Naperville on December 3rd at 3pm. What better way to kick off the first Sunday of Advent as we join and sing the songs of our faith and let a few musical groups from our different UM churches lead us in celebration.
