My heart pounded and I could hardly breathe as Hubby and I walked back to the car after this photo was taken. To have Alan Gratz hold my book while I held a couple of his was surreal. Especially since I first met Alan when the journey to write Society of the Sentinelia began. |

The Lexington Book Festival officially kicked off at 10 a.m. on March 25 with the middle grade panel. Just before we headed to the stage, Melanie Sue Bowles, author of Liberty Biscuit, and I posed for a quick photo in Arts Davidson County's arts theatre. |
While being interviewed, Melanie and I discovered: ***We both ventured into writing women's fiction and both did NOT like it. ***We both write our first drafts rather swiftly (1-3 months). ***We both have another middle grade book coming out this year! |
After the panel, Melanie and I signed books. This was the first time I had a significant line of strangers cued up for me to sign books and take photos. I was in heaven! |

The more you write, the more you learn, and the more you hone, the better you become at your craft. Which inevitably leads to this face when you dig up those old manuscripts. |

We're changing it up! Zahra is working to expand her vocabulary. Therefore, instead of a cool fact, she's going to share a new word each month. Here's this month's word: Sagacity According the the Cambridge Dictionary, sagacity is a noun that means "the quality of having or showing understanding and the ability to make good judgements." |

Like many of my contemporaries, I do a lot of social media scrolling. When I come across something incredibly inspiring, or an item I'd love to incorporate into my life, I download or save a screenshot. Below are a couple of examples of WOW items I've added to my SOMEDAY folder. One is a tree-inspired door. The other is the most incredibly magical bed I've ever seen—or maybe it's just a reading corner. Either way, if we can ever afford a decorator and some upgrades to our home, these are examples I will share during the planning stages. |
