“Sowing the Seeds for Success”

We are thrilled to announce that 2022 was our most successful year to date and we are super excited to share all of the GREAT news with you and our plans for 2023!

CELEBRATING 40 YEARS!

Celebrating 40 years of positively impacting the lives of students in Northern Virginia through scholarships! With this milestone in mind, our Board focused on outlining a strategic plan, including revamping our vision and mission statements, to better capture our goals to ensure that we will be able help students for years to come.

Our Mission: Through fundraising and the provision of scholarships, we continue to pave educational pathways for students in Northern Virginia.

Our Vision: To ensure students achieve their greatest potential by pursuing higher education.

We celebrated our 40 year history with a Past, Present and Future celebration on October 23rd at our Annual Tea. Many of the Scholarship Fund’s past presidents were in attendance to help honor the Scholarship recipients from both 2021 and 2022. We were so fortunate to have two founding members of the Scholarship Fund Board in attendance, Kitty Cox and Jan Lucca, who each were awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. One of our keynote speakers and event signature sponsor, Roald Nashi, spoke about the importance of educations, and the need for scholarships.

We raised over 15,000, this year, at the tea, which is our most successful tea fundraiser ever!

For 2022, through the success of our Havana Night fundraiser, we were able to increase each scholarship from $1000 to $2500 each! We awarded 13 scholarships, 11 from our general fund and 2 from our endowments. We also partnered with the Early Identification Program of GMU and gifted $10,000 to the program.

Jackie Harding, Fundraising Director, presenting to GMU EIP

The GMU EIP (Early Identification Program) provides educational resources for middle and high school students who will be first in their families to attend a college or university. Once a student successfully graduates from EIP, they gain automatic admission to GMU. We are proud to share that the $10,000 gift is now established and named: The Women's Club of Great Falls Scholarship Fund EIP Scholarship. The article on the Scholarship Funds donation for EIP went in GMU’s e-newsletter that is distributed to thousands of individuals.

STRATEGIC PLAN and SUCCESSION PLAN --

COMMUNITY SUPPORT, PR/MARKETING and GRANTS/ACCOUNTING

We have created more brand awareness this year through community participation and marketing, including becoming a Board member of the Grange Foundation, partnering with the Women's Club for Celebrate Great Falls Foundation events and hosted two "meet and greet" recruiting/thank you events for our volunteers and have increased our event committee to include 30 volunteers. We are also planning on adding two more Board positions to help with growth.

SOON we will be launching our refreshed website, with an updated logo, adding a YouTube account with video student stories, our LinkedIn to stay in touch with our students, a blog, and many other updated pages, we know you will enjoy perusing.

We have formed a grant committee, steered by Nancy Costello and Erin Lobato and with the assistance of a grant consultant, we have created a grant infrastructure, identified grant opportunities, and sent our first outreach to donors. Additionally, we are working closely with our CPA, and have invested in QuickBooks to ensure that all filings, and pertinent information for our supporters and donors will be prepared, and audited at the appropriate time. We are delighted to share that we are now also on GuideStar soon to be at the Gold Level. For more information: https://www.guidestar.org/profile/52-1300501
