An Evening with Pianist Jacqueline Schwab |
Workforce Opportunity Services, a leading non-profit organization that connects individuals in underserved populations with transformative career opportunities, is hosting a free, two-part concert series — "An Evening with Pianist Jacqueline Schwab." Each session is designed for those of all ages and aims to stimulate their creativity and expand their horizon in the arts. From Ken Burns’ documentaries to the White House to PBS's American Roots special with The American Pops Orchestra, Jacqueline Schwab is known for evoking America's musical past, but in a fresh, personal way. |
In this series, Jacqueline will showcase her newest project, "I Lift My Lamp — Illuminations from Immigrant America," as well as perform arrangements of traditional song and dance tunes reflecting different aspects of winter: Wednesday, January 18: "I Lift My Lamp — Illuminations from Immigrant America" highlights vintage song and dance tunes from Western and Eastern European, Latin American, and other immigrants to celebrate community music-making and America’s cultural diversity, inviting listeners to reflect on their own musical roots and pride in their heritage. Wednesday, January 25: "Drive the Cold Winter Away" features traditional song and dance tunes about winter — storms, cold, hibernation, and loneliness — but also community fun times, like skating. Drawn from traditional Celtic and American roots, Jacqueline's pieces encourage participants to find warmth, relax, and regroup during the quiet winter months, before the busy springtime.
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Please enter YORK COUNTY LIBRARY or YCL where it asks where you heard about the program. For more information about this series and other WFO workshops, visit wforce.org. *Photo courtesy of Ted Crane: tedcrane.com. |

Help Welcome Carlton, Jr.! YCL invites you to come meet Carlton, Jr., Lake Wylie Library's new bear and mascot! Carlton was delivered in November and is all set for visitors. We appreciate the generosity of the Carlton Fund, which allows us to beautify our library with projects like this, and we look forward to many years with our new bear! We'd also like to wish Carlton, Sr., who had to be removed due to termite and weather damage, a happy retirement! |
