Update #7 2020

The Bilby's have been released in Sturt National Park, tourists have flocked to Corner Country and meanwhile, the Sturt's Steps Tourism Infrastructure Project is gaining momentum. This last month there has been considerable work done on the planning and approvals of land occupation for various elements of the project. As well as the large Bandicoot wireframe sculpture is taking shape in Coonamble. Read all the details below in this month's newsletter to stakeholders and partners.

Scultpture Trail

The Sculpture trail planning, procurement, and consultation is well underway for the 5 sites with West Darling Arts Project Coordinator Jo Crase;

1) Wild Deserts and the Observation Area at Sturt National Park which will house a larger than life Bilby and Bandicoot

2) Yanco Glen in the information bay and old hotel site

3) Packsaddle where art will aim to bring the community together and share stories from around the globe

4) Milparinka will tell the stories of challenges from the women of the Outback and

5) Tibooburra where artwork will bring to life another infrastructure element of the project.

Latest Activity

Signage for the Touring Route

The next stage of required approvals involves the Tourism Attraction Signposting Approval Committee (TASAC). Each sign along the route has been mapped, GPS pinpointed, designed and included in a submission that will go before TASAC by the end of the month. This is a key element to the project to help navigate tourists around the region and help them navigate to attractions and interpretation. Once approved we will then procure all signage for the touring route, hoping to have it installed in the first half of 2021.
