Media Representation of CaLD Young People
Join us for MYAN WA's second forum of the year, where we will explore the topic of media representation and CaLD young people. Young people have told us loud and clear that negative stereotypes of CALD young people or an absence of positive representations of young people in the media is problematic. This event will give young people, and those that work with them, a great opportunity to hear from media experts. As usual, we will host a panel and are excited to be joined by local Perth journalists and those who work in the media industry.
Panelists include:

- Kyle Brown - WA Correspondent - SBS

- Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa - Spoken Word Artist

- Michae la Carr- Broadcast Journalist - ABC

- Jessica Allen - Perth Tonight Producer - 6PR

- Cassandra Nguyen - Studio News Director - ABC

- Abdulrahim Elmi - Roots TV

As always, there will be plenty of time to ask questions, have discussions and network over morning tea. RSVP's are essential as places are limited.

Harmony Week Film
In March 2018, MYAN WA and YACWA partnered to develop a youth film project for Harmony Week. A group of young people volunteered their time to develop questions and meet and interview politicians and community leaders. All of the young people involved in this project were part of the 2017 Catalyst Summit - Faizel Nabi, Hadi Rahimi, Lutfullah Ahmadi, Martha Sari, Nebyeleul Weldeyesusm, Pauline Chiwawa and Sadeqa Sarvari. A huge thank you goes to Sarah Imtiaz who shot all the footage and developed the film, and our supporters, the Office of Multicultural Interests and the Curtin Centre for Human Rights Education. Link the CC button at the bottom of the screen when watching to get closed captions.

Surveys

CaLD young people and the media

Are you...
- a young person aged 12-25
- identify as CaLD or refugee/migrant
- have something to say about how the media currently represents you and your peers?
The YEP Project needs your help! They're currently in the process of developing a workshop on Culturally & Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) young people aged 12-25 and sexual health & blood borne virus (SHBBV) awareness and education in WA.
Media representation is a key component of the new workshop. By completing this survey, you will provide YEP with a better understanding of the representation of CaLD young people in the media and how media representation affects you and your peers. To thank you for your time, you will also go into the draw to win a $30 Coles/Myer voucher.
