'Hooray for Monday!'

Digest

Morning!

Welcome to the hipster edition of HFM.  As you can see, even dogs (and a cat), are getting in on the act with their plaid shirts and cool specs.  The bunch above probably run a cold-brew coffee shop in Shoreditch.

Hipsters are a group that many love to hate.  Personally, my blood boils when they put the word 'artisan' on anything.  In my head that translates as 'we're going to charge you a fiver more than we should for this and serve it on a block of wood!'  However, this week I share an article on what we can learn from hipsters.

Even the silly items this week have a hipster theme.  We've got skateboarding dogs and the 'We Want Plates' campaign.

As always, let me know if there's something you'd like me to include in a future edition.  The key criterion is that it needs to have a positive angle/outcome.

What we can learn from hipsters

This article from Hannah Grace Dierdorff may need a little digestion to see how it can apply to your working life but it's thought-provoking.  For me, I've translated her five points into the following:

1. Be authentic.

Of course, we need to tweak our behaviour for different settings/situations but not so much that we appear as a non-descript robot.  Character is good!

2. Be curious

Learn/read things just for curiosity.  Don't dismiss things because you can't see an immediate connection with your career/job, you never know what idea they will spark.

3. Think about bigger issues

The more we explore other people's views and culture, the better understanding we have of each other.  (It doesn't mean you must agree).

4. To be unique you need to embrace some of your weirdness.

That may include sending people photos of dogs in plaid shirts and specs!

5. Let your values guide the choices you make.

You may be clear on your values, if you aren't coaching can help, just get in touch at www.pressurevalvecoaching.com  (I had to get a plug in for coaching somewhere!)

Dogs on skateboards

What's not to love?

Your challenge this week is to do something playful and childlike just for fun, capturing the spirit of these dogs.  (My plan is to whizz down the slide in the park on my way to the gym.  It will be early morning so there won't be any children or parents to alarm.  Your choice could be something more low-key).

We want plates

As it's the end of summer, I thought you deserved an extra thing to make you smile. Although, perhaps this website will have the same effect on you that the word 'artisan' has on me.

We've all seen food served on chopping boards and drinks served in jam jars but hipster quirkiness has gone so mainstream (and so ridiculous), that people are fighting back with the 'We Want Plates' campaign.

A part of me wondered whether some posts were fabricated (would restaurants really serve food in dog bowls, ashtrays and flip-flops?), then I sighed and thought, yes, they probably would.

For your future and your wallet:

Boost your career and/or, an easy way to get £25!

Yep, another reminder of how you can earn yourself £25 in a matter of seconds (just think, that's enough to by a cup of coffee in a hipster bar!!!)

All you need to do is share details of my career bootcamp (and HFM!) with your network via email and social media.

In return, as well as having a warm glow from doing a good deed and my eternal thanks, you could also earn yourself £25.

I always ask new customers how they learnt about my services.  If they give your name as the answer and subsequently book services, then £25 is yours. (This offer applies to all services, not just the Bootcamp).

The £25 can be a direct PayPal payment, or a gift card for Amazon or Kiva.org (The latter enables you to give a micro-loan, helping someone’s business or even for their education).

You can share HFM via the social media icons at the bottom of this email.

Or, send this link so people can sign up: https://www.pressurevalvecoaching.com/free-stuff
