PORTRAIT COMMISSION - Radboud University |
Here is a sneak preview of a detail of the portrait I am working on for Radboud University. It is progressing steadily although I would like more speed in painting. However, it is not in my nature to take the easy way out. I am always looking to grow and improve my skills. That doesn't happen without study. So parallel to painting this portrait, I again studied a lot on skills of old masters and delved back into the textbooks. Every portrait has new challenges! I love how that stimulates my growth. |

For a healthy change with our daily focus, making connections with new art interests and sharpening our skills, Leonie and I set up 'Kunstleiding' more broadly. We now each have a group of participants whom we guide along the creative path one part day a week. Leonie a group of 8 children and I guide adults on Wednesday evenings. Check out www.kunstleiding.nl. An online platform we set up for that purpose. There you will find information about what we offer: - 1-to-1 guidance (started since mid 2022) - group guidance in drawing and painting (currently running) - portrait painting course (coming up) - drawing lessons for children provided by Leonie (currently running) Maybe you'd like to join yourself or know someone who might want to get in? |

With great pleasure, I painted this portrait of F. on 20-by-20-centimetre panel. Experimenting with transparency, layering, use of colour and suggestion, again brought me many insights that I will use in new portraits. I also enjoyed painting on panel. Although the ground here is still quite roughly primed with gesso. Click here to see the whole work on my website. Interested in a portrait of this size at an attractive price? NEW WEBSITE FOR MY ABSTRACT ART |
In the long run, I want to offer my abstract work to galleries and not facilitate the sales myself. Anticipating this, I have given that part of my portfolio its own place on www.frankverbruggeart.com.
It's a 'different' face than how I position my figurative work, where I really enjoy being in direct contact with my clients and art enthusiasts. For the more abstract work, I prefer to outsource that in the future, resulting in a different form of communication. I'd love to hear what you think of this setup! Leave your message via the website or through the button at the bottom of this newsletter. |

I consider drawing to be a fundamental aspect of learning to observe a subject well. In fact, it should be a daily practice: starting the day with a drawing. Here's an example of a charcoal portrait I recently created. A beautiful affordable alternative to an oil painting. Check out some more portraits I made recently. |
