INSIDE HLC - Spring/Summer 2023

FROM THE DIRECTOR

We had a great year at Hope Learning Center with personal growth with our students and physical growth of our facility. We served 21 students in 3 different groups this year and watched these young adults develop friendships, build their skills and learn new ones. We had tough conversations and celebrated accomplishments. We also had the opportunity to speak about HLC at a number of different community events and develop partnerships.

Thank you for your support of HLC! We look forward to entering year four this fall! We have so much to be thankful for. Continue reading below to see photos from this year and the progress on the new space which will serve our students and parents through classes, socials, parents groups and workshops. We've been blessed through giving from our partnership with Good Stuff Thrift which has paid for most of the expansion. We are in the final stages of this project. We are currently completing outside work and zoning requirements, finishing the bathroom, and getting the kitchenette in.

If you would like to donate to the project know your giving directly supports our students and families. Just click on the button below and go to the DONATE tab. On that page you can support us financially or through purchasing an item on our Amazon Wishlist. If you aren't already, please follow us on Instagram and Facebook and share our posts!

Early stages:

Utility closet installed, drywall work, new lighting.

Painting. Lots and lots of painting! Thank you Chip for your help.

Stone veneer was put on the outside of HLC.

Thank you Minsi LLC for your great work!

Metal sheeting from an old barn was installed on the lower portion of the walls for durability.

Furniture donation from MillerKnoll!

We were anxious to start using the space despite work still needing to be done. We have so much more room! Students are also enjoying our new hanging chairs.

Cozy nook for students to relax. We were able to purchase a fish tank set up with grant money we applied for.

Art piece made by our students last year for the auction under the direction of Bedminster Handmade has been reframed and hangs proudly in the new space.

We are beyond grateful for Josh and his crew who worked so diligently on this project. Always keeping costs in mind they provided the highest quality craftmanship along the way. Every aspect was completed with the students in mind!

THANK YOU!

SKILLS: Housing Initiative

We are diligently working with investors on an affordable housing initiative for our students. This will be a "next step" offering for students ready to transition to independent living and continue practicing the skills they have learned while in our program. Students will be living in a community together with oversight from HLC.

CONNECTIONS: Beyond HLC

Group 1 had a week where there wasn't a class scheduled so a student organized meeting at Lubertos so they wouldn't miss their weekly time together! We love it when they carry skills outside of HLC.

Good Stuff Thrift Collections

In May the Lion's Gate Community in Souderton held a collection drive on behalf of HLC. We had a great collection and all proceeds directly support HLC. Thank you, Trudy Sutters, for organizing this drive! Pictured L to R: Steve Fortner from Good Stuff; HLC students Jay and Emily; HLC owners, Marie and Steve Haney.
