Free Breathing Meditations

Dear Breathers,

 

December always heightens our senses and the memories they hold.

It can also carry us into reflections of loved ones.

 

Which of your senses do you feel holds the strongest memories?

Smell

Touch

Taste

Hearing

Sight

 

Which sense's memories would you like to enhance in your breathing meditation this week ?

 

If it’s smell, bring and cut up orange, cinnamon or flowers (be creative). Place them next to you and begin your first 3 minutes breathing in a circle through the nose.

 

If it’s touch, bring an item that is precious to touch. A jacket of a loved one, the collar of your pet, the watch of a loved one, a favorite blanket, a childhood book…you get the idea.

 

If it's taste, begin your breath sitting up and eat a few bites slowly or drink a hot chocolate or tea…slow, notice the swallow and the feeling that follows. Then rest back and breathe, still sensing the taste.

 

If it's hearing, begin from the time you are reading this to recall over and over a sound you love. A voice, a bird, the ocean and then play the recording from the memories carefully held by this sense. During the breathe, stay aware of sounds appearing.

 

If it is sight, keep your eyes open for the breathe, look at a photo of yourself as a child and stay connected to it through sight. Alternatively, look at a photo of your family or a friend. Another choice is to look into your own eyes in a mirror. You could look into the eyes of another if there is someone with you. Another choice would be to look at nature.

 

For all of you, have photos of loved ones nearby, or a letter or items that have their energy. We are honoring infinite connections.

 

Let's breathe consciously for thirty minutes and follow with a third eye meditation for another ten minutes.

It's a good idea to have your journal nearby, as you may want to write down some insights when you finish. It's also nice to have a candle or two lit, a glass of water, or tea, a pillow, and a blanket (you will be lying down). On the zoom screen, you have the choice to keep your camera on or off. Do what feels best for you. This is about you creating a practice space that feels extra special.
