How SL fulfilled the dreams of a customer's 70-year-old inner child... |
On November 10, 2019, Margaret Aldrich’s seven-year old fantasy of being a princess was fulfilled at her 70th birthday bash, a masquerade ball held at the Hilton Netherland Plaza in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. |
Margaret had been referred to SL by a friend, and she wanted me to construct a custom birthday outfit in a Victorian silhouette. Margeret had drawn several sketches, and, after a few consultations, we agreed on a jacket and dress combo. One of the challenges was to create a high standing collar for the jacket. Working with muslin, I tried boning used in corsets and framing wire, but the boning wasn’t bendable, and the framing wire rolled. So, I decided to go to hardware store to find something that was stable and when bent would remain in place. Cable wire did the trick! |

The jacket also included Leg of Mutton sleeves, ruffles on the collar, and a double ruffle at the hem of the sleeves. To accompany the jacket, I created a sleeveless dress with a princess seamed full skirt. |

Meet Bobbins, our cute canine colleague. |
If our friends at Mood Fabrics can have Swatch (a real dog) as their “watch dog” and mascot, I thought SL could have a dog, too. Meet Bobbins! He's not real, but he's still adorable. Bobbins is a wooden dog head with shelves displaying a variety of dog bandanas and scarves provided by the pet accessory company Dog Tahoe. Some of the scarves were sewn by SL! Imagine how nice these accessories might look on your dog or as a gift for a friend’s dog. We decided to make these items available since we have seen so many dogs escorting their pet-parents up and down Main Street. Please call the store at (513) 443-6739 if your wish to purchase dog accessories. |

Women on Main will help with holiday spirit! |
To promote women-owned businesses on Main Street, local entrepreneurs united to create a special Wednesday Walk event that will be held on December 11 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The upcoming Wednesday Walk will feature eleven business sites. When you participate in the Wednesday Walk you will receive a passport, which you can have stamped when you enter the various shops. There will be discounts and promotions, and the night will end at Corkopolis (640 Main St.) where the passports can be turned in for bonuses to be announced at the event. There will be food, beverages, and a chance to win a grand prize. |

T-Shirts for the Holidays |
Since our BLINK Tee was such a success, SL will be selling another T-Shirt that is very special to me. My mother always told me when working on a project to not half do anything. She would say, “Whole Step or No Step.” Because my mother was my greatest cheerleader, I wanted to honor her by placing her constant reminder on the back wall of the store. Since she’s no longer here, I want others also to experience and wear the idea of always doing one’s best. |
