Keeping you up to date with our latest news! |

From the director's desk Greetings families and friends, And just like that, we have reached our seventh year of programming in the Lawndale community. That's right! This has been by far, one of the most exciting years of our guitar program. We joined a new partnership with the Lawndale Elementary School District, served more students than ever before, collaborated with new artists, expanded our programming to four school sites, opened up new classes at our local park studio, and concluded with a wonderful spring concert. This year we received support from the L A County Department of Arts and Culture, the California Arts Council, and Find Your Light Foundation. Also, we received in-kind support from the Guitar Center Music Foundation and Hungry for Music. It is evident that these organizations along with our private donors played a major role in the development and growth of our classical guitar program. Therefore, we are extremely grateful for everything that has happened in our 2023-2024 program year, but the one thing that we are mostly thankful is the commitment and dedication that our students have put in making music with the guitar. From returning students to new students, they have all made us very proud of their hard work and dedication. They have proved that music education is a vital tool for the development of every child and they are the reason we will continue to work harder to enrich our community in helping more children explore life with music. So, what's next you ask? Just wait and see... I wish everyone, parents, families and friends a happy and exciting summer break! Be well and be safe Luis Sanchez, Executive Director Guitars Antiqua Music Program |

Thank You Guitar Center Music Foundation! |
To start off the second quarter of the year, we were happy to announce that we were selected as grant recipients from the Guitar Center Music Foundation. This wonderful in-kind support ensures that we put instruments in the hands of children in our guitar program and marks the second time that this amazing organization has contributed in joining us to fulfill our mission to helping children explore life with music! We want to send a huge thank you to all the people involved in the decision making at the Guitar Center Music Foundation, including executive director, Myka Miller, the board of directors, and all staff members. We are truly humbled by their support and generosity. |

Visit to Alarte Suzuki Studio in Guatemala City |
As part of our professional development initiatives, while on a special trip to Guatemala City, we had the pleasure to visit Alarte Guatemala Music Studio. This music program conducted by Mr. Aldor Divassi, is based on the well-known Suzuki method, which is a music education philosophy on the belief that all children can learn to play an instrument. We had a nice conversation with Mr. Divassi, learned a lot about his program and his students. Also, we shared our stories and got the chance to play some music for each other. We are very thankful for their warm welcome to their studio and we look forward for some potential collaboration in the future. |

Miniature Guitars Fundraiser |
In April we launched our annual Spring Fundraiser and this year we brought back our miniature guitars sale. These beautiful ornaments, originally handcrafted in Michoacan, Mexico, were a total hit among our community. We had three different styles to choose from: Cedar, Spruce and Coco. However, Coco was the most popular item from the list! In case you didn't get a chance to purchase one, we still have some in stock and they are only $ 20.00 each. Don't forget, all proceeds go directly to support our classical guitar youth program. Contact us if you'd like to purchase one: info@guitarsantiqua.org |

Our guitar family keeps growing and growing and we couldn't be happier! Please, join us in welcoming Aaron, Rafael, Alessandra, and Blanca. They are studying with Ms. Giovanna at our Bodger Park Community Park building. |

2024 Spring Concert Highlights |
Our 2024 spring concert was held on June 8 at the Lawndale Library, and it was a great success thanks to the beautiful participation and performances of all our students! This event marks not only our first year of partnership with LESD'S RAP Program, but it also completes our seventh year of programming in the Lawndale Community. We are thankful to all the families and friends who came to support and cheer for the students, some of which played at our concert for the very first time. This year we had students from Anderson, Mitchell, Smith, and FDR elementary. We concluded the concert with our studio class students from the first level, second level, and intermediate/advance levels. Our concert included a variety of music from children's songs, to traditional to contemporary. Overall, we had a wonderful time presenting this event to our community and we want to congratulate all students who participated. Everyone did a marvelous job! |
