I went for a bike ride on my day off the other day. It was really nice in the Platzl when I jumped on my bike and rode off into the sunshine with a gentle breeze in my hair. Minutes later I found myself being pummeled by a hail/snow storm between Kimberley and Marysville , hanging on to the handlebars for dear life. After a tea-break in Marysville with no change in the weather, I decided to cut the ride short and return home to, as it turned out, another glorious, sunny 5 minutes in the Platzl. "Right", I thought, "spring has sprung in the Kootenays".

The occasional signs of spring make me feel energised and inspired. After getting re-inspired by a generous, local business person's advise, I finally gave shape to my vision of a "functional art section" in the back of the gallery. Please stop by next time you find yourself in the Platzl to check out the new gift shop where you will find all kinds of art cards, small paintings, prints, books, pottery, quilted pouches, and many more gift shop items .

Another new thing I'm working on is a workshop for artists entitled "Ready to Sell?!". In this workshop I will cover all things important when selling your artworks. There are many steps to consider after finishing an art piece; from signature to sale and beyond. Stay tuned for a date and details in the near future. You heard it here first!

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Look at Neal Panton and your favourite gallerist ;-) having fun at last Saturday afternoon's reception of Neal's solo photography exhibition about the peace and quiet he found in Iceland! It was a lovely gathering of friends, artists, and art lovers with Neal sharing with us his artistic journey and tales of a trip to Iceland with his wife Francis.

If you haven't seen the exhibition yet, you have two more weeks to do so as the show has been extended by a week until April 22nd.

NEW at the art gallery

Several awesome, new paintings were delivered by Winlaw-based artist Bryn Stevenson. Bryn also brought a large selection of beautiful, new art cards which you can find in the gift shop.

Kimberley-based artist Rob Toller has created two amazing, new sculptures. They are BIG and beautiful and best seen in-person. Rob's sculptures sold like hotcakes last spring and summer, so make sure to check them out soon!

Some absolutely adorable new paintings were dropped off at the gallery by Cranbrook-based artist LaVerna Peters. They are currently hanging out in the gift shop.

These incredible, new creations were finished and immediately delivered to the gallery by Kimberley-based artist Kyla Richards. Kyla's sculptures are becoming increasingly harder to photograph; they just keep getting smaller!

Cranbrook-based artist Mariah Plant painted up a storm in the last couple months and her delightful, new artworks can be found in the gallery and the gift shop. The ones that are left that is, as they are finding new homes fast.

Radium-based artist Cecilia Lea brought us three wonderful, new paintings. Come check them out at the gallery as all art is best viewed "up-close and personal".

And last but certainly not least, Calgary-based watercolour artist Sandy Blass is visiting Kimberley this weekend. Sandy is teaching a two-day workshop at Centre 64 and she will be demonstrating her artistic process at the gallery this Sunday.

Sandy dropped off several small, framed watercolour paintings from her Morning Brush Hour series. This is THE chance to get a beautiful, original Sandy Blass watercolour painting for those with less wall space and/or a smaller budget!

WHAT IS COMING UP?

Coming up this Sunday at 2:30 pm! Join us for an art demonstration by Calgary-based watercolour artist Sandy Blass and live music by local Jazz trio "the d'linquent" | Tickets: $22 + GST
