I've learned to climb!

Ever been bouldering? No ropes, just climbing... plus lots and lots of falling.

When you're in Nebraska you need a good indoor sport for the winter season.

There are routes with different colors & levels that indicate difficulty! Climbers call routes "problems," because a route is a rock-puzzle to solve.

There's lots of technique in bouldering. Plus, I have really muscley fingers now... I wonder if it will affect how I draw?

Sketchbook tour!

Let's look around in my sketchbook from the last month... Hmm, what's in here?

I have a super cool sketchbook handmade by a local shop with Strathmore paper sewn into an old book cover. I don't know what book Children Are People was, but the title makes it a great sketchbook cover for a children's book illustrator I think.

(It's kind of my mantra.)

Lately I've been sketching with negative space. I use a carpenter's pencil to shade a darker value around something lighter. Things look less controlled and more delightfully wonky, like this moose.

Lately I've been drawing out of National Geographic; The Photographs, a book I borrowed from a friend. Obviously super inspiring photos and just incredible images in here. I'm drawing lots of animals.

Thinking about film photography in nature reminds me of one of my favorite movies: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

My favorite sketchbook?

Sketchbooks by Leuchtturm 1917.

It's my book!!

Cooler than Lemonade, written by Harshita Jerath and illustrated by me, came out officially on March 7th!!!

Thank you to everyone that's already bought a book. All the support made this a super happy book launch! !

I painted Eva's special ice cream treat, kulfi, on the windows of my local bookstore. YUM! (and it was almost cold enough to freeze some Kulfi when I painted it!!! BRRR 😂)

Eva is a creative entrepreneur that doesn't give up and I want everyone to meet her.

A special thank you to Elleinad Books for hosting a fabulous reading and signing.

The store was FILLED with friends and families from the Lincoln community! One child asked, "Have you ever made Kulfi?" ...YES! And you should too with the great recipe in the back of the book!

For those who are wondering, the BEST way you can buy my books is through the website of another local bookstore, Francie and Finch.

When they get an order for Cooler than Lemonade, they slip in a signed-by-me bookplate (sticker) with your purchase!! So YOU can have a Chloe-signed book wherever you are. 😉

See you next month! ⛵️
