Well, if you still have shopping to do and gifts to buy, there's quite a number of pop-up markets over the next ten days or so. There are also two food and music festivals this weekend, some workshops, including mixology and painting, a festival of short films, talks and lots more, There's also a couple of grand openings this Friday, a cafe in the morning and a bar in the evening. A good end to the week! Lots of music too, especially DJ music, with the highlight on Saturday with several visiting DJs from overseas. Meal Deals and Food Offers There are two big food and musioc festivals this weekend. In the city. the Colombo Flavour Fest is at Green Path in Colombo 7 from 5pm on Friday and Saturday, with over 30 food stalls, music and entertainment. The other big festival will be at Kamatha in Thalawatugoda. The "Food Master Music Blaster Festival" will be on from 4pm on both Friday and Saturday, with an array of food stalls, chilled music and more. The Sunday Brunch buffet is back at Mount Lavinia Hotel starting this Sunday, from 11.00am to 2.00pm, priced at Rs7000 per person, with live jazz. The Colombo Brunch Club is back this weekend on Sunday at The Chiller Room and Ask for Fern. This is as much about music as it is about food, with nine DJs plus live saxophone and keyboards, but there is a sit-down brunch created by Australia Masterchef contestant Dulan Hapuarachchi. The brunch is from 10.30am to 3.30pm, with two brunch sittings and tickets are Rs4500. There are some new festive high teas for the season. The Movenpick will launch a High Tea Buffet with an array of canapes, savouries and sweets, which will be available from 3.30pm to 6.30pm from 16 to 23 December, priced at Rs4,100 per person. The Ramada, too, will have a festive high tea buffet available from 22 to 25 December. The times and prices vary depending on the date. A reminder that Spinneys Cafe will be opening on Friday morning at 9.30am. We're looking forward to trying their home-made croissants and breakfast waffles and having a mug of good coffee! | | |

Drinks Deals Exciting news from Sanctuarii who are opening two new spaces this Friday evening: Bonobo Bar and The Terrace. These will be opening on Friday evening at 9.00pm, along with some live and DJ music. On Sunday, Tipsy Da Vinci is hosting two "Sip and Paint" workshops at Colombo City Centre, at 12 noon and 5pm. So, you can enjoy a glass or two while painting. If you have not painted before, then this might be a good time to start? There's a new happy hour, at Floor by O. They offer happy hour deals daily, from 5.00pnm to 7.00pm and they apply to beers and selected cocktails plus there are bottle offers as well. Looking ahead to next week and there's an interesting event at t-Lounge and Bar. Amrit Fernando of Dilmah Tea will host a "Tea & Mixology Cocktail Workshop", to learn about tea, cocktails and the art of mixology. Live Music and DJs Not so much live music this week, but plenty of EDM parties then next week we see more live music again. The Food Master Music Blaster festival in Thalawatugoda features Rana with Aura on Friday night while on Saturday you'll find Ravi Royster with Rataa. On Friday, DJ Mass will be performing aty the Floatz pub in Marino Mall. Also on Friday, The Marians will be on stage at the Galadari, with Nadini Premadasa. On Saturday, The Slipping Chairs will be at Re.pub.lk. On to EDM and on Friday the Love Bar have teamed up with DJ Senter for "Fresh AF", with five of the top new DJs. On Saturday, NR 11 Altitude music festival is the big event, with four international guest DJs: Lovra, Mesto, Keanu Silva and Madison Mars, plus DJ Mass. This will all be happening at the CR&FC grounds from 5pm, regular and VIP tickets are available. Also on Saturday, "Revolution" features guest DJ Alex Orion with six leading local DJs at the Mount Lavinia Hotel from 7pm. Other Events OK let's start with the Christmas Markets. Santa's Village on Saturday 10 December at the Women's International Club has about 80 stalls by female entrepreneurs as well as kids' activities and a raffle. Also on Saturday, the EPFS Community Christmas Fair and Ceylon riding Club Horse Show at Ceylon Riding Club in Port City will have over 120 stalls, horse riding exhibitions and a visit from Santa. The Day Market at Cafe Kumbuk features some local vendors of gifts, crafts and treats and will be from 9.30am to 5.00pm on Saturday. The Night Market will be at the Araliya Car Park by Crescat Boulevard from 3pm to 9pm featuring stalls by local entrepreneurs and businesses. After running around all these markets, you might need to unwind. Prana Lounge has a yoga session on Saturday, led by Sumali, to awaken your feet through standing asanas and forward bends. It's from 4pm to 6pm. A Festival of Short Films will run from Thursday 8th to Monday 12th December with short films being screen daily at 3.30pm and 6.00pm. On Saturday 10 December the programme will be different, with eight award winning films from different countries dealing with Human Rights issues will be screened instead, to mark Human Rights Day. These screenings will all be at the Goethe Institut and the schedule is on the Agenda14 page. On Thursday, the monthly Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS) lecture is about "Saving Sinharaja" with three speakers discussing a ten year plan to save and protect the forest. And one for the kids: a Christmas Party at Water's Edge with fairground rides, magic show, carnival games and a visit from Santa. It's on 16 December at 3pm, the cost Rs4000 for kids over 10 years and Rs2200 for under 10. Also on the 16th but probably not for the kids is Comedy Rumble, a stand-up comedy night at Trace Expert City. Note: this will be in Sinhala. Next week there's still more!
