Note from the Chair

Dear Member,

CRU is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this month!!!

I wanted to thank you on behalf of our committee for your ongoing support both financially and strategically over the last decade.

It’s that time of the year: AGM

I know that many of you are concerned about the current situation regarding coastal hazards and the Council’s position as well as the announcement of the National Adaptation Plan that was unveiled several months ago.

This year, I have personally extended an invitation to the mayor and all the elected Councillors to join us at the AGM.  I think after a decade of lobbying for good science, good planning, and good law, we might have a Council that we can actually work with.  And although time will tell – by bringing them on board now, we might actually save ourselves potential litigation.

In that spirit, your attendance is much needed.

Our keynote speaker is Mrs. Katharine Moody.

Katharine Moody is a Senior Tutor in Massey University’s Resource and Environmental Management Programme.  She will be speaking on the Government’s intention to introduce a Climate Adaptation (and Managed Retreat) Act within the Resource Management Act (RMA) reform programme, and the implications for the ‘Adaptation Areas’ as defined by the Takutai Kāpiti adaptation project.

This will be followed by general business.

The details of our AGM is:

Date: Saturday, November 12

Time: 1.00pm

Venue: Citizens Hall, Ocean Road, Paraparaumu Beach
