This is the first of many vineyard reports we will be sharing with you in the months ahead. These reports will provide a short seasonal overview of what is happening in the vineyard that will impact the wine for next year’s vintage. The grape vines benefited from an excellent winter characterized by relatively moderate temperatures, positively impacting the vineyard as it rested over the winter. This was the mildest winter we have experienced since we began keeping detailed records in 2016. These mild temperatures continued into spring with early budbreak, occurring about ten days earlier than normal. Thus far, the vines have consistently grown one week ahead of schedule with the vines reaching full bloom on June 5th. This is also the earliest bloom date we have ever experienced since we planted the grapes in 2016. A late spring frost didn’t rear its head, the occurrence of which last year devasted our vineyard and resulting in the loss of 85% of our normal harvest. Overall, the vineyard looks fantastic with all the vines heavy with flower clusters. The vines are healthy and disease free and we are currently looking at possibly an exceptional year and vintage. |
