Ethical Update

BY MARIGOLD COLLECTIVE

A Good, Ethical Read:

We stumbled across this excellent article by ecocult.com outlining sustainable fibres you may not have heard of. More and more research is going into plant-based textiles, which is uncovering all sorts of alternative solutions. These new 'bio-fibers' are contributing towards sustainable agricultural practices in the counties who need them most.

As mentioned in the article, 'Sisal' requires very little water and is a great resource for agricultural workers in hot, dry parts of the world. As Africa continues to feel the effects of climate change, Sisal is an excellent alternative to conventional crops which may be more difficult to maintain in carrying conditions.

Mother's Day Gifting Event Update:

Given the reality of the pandemic, we are thrilled to announce that we reached 65% of our $5,000 CAD goal.A huge thank you to all of you who shared and took part in our event! We couldn't have done it without you.

We hope whoever received a gift from your this Mother's Day absolutely loved it - and loved the story behind it as well. One things we know for sure is, the core values making up Fair Trade practices are increasingly important to people. We are all becoming more aware and caring of principles like fair wages, clean and safe working conditions and sustainable production methods.

It continues to be our mission to provide a Canadian marketplace for women-made, fair trade products, crafted in developing nations. With the proceeds from this year's online Mother's Day gifting event, together with the revenues from our new Vancouver store, we will be able to reach our objectives of:

  • Doubling our investment and orders with the Bangladesh artisan cooperative who craft our Jute Totes
  • Doubling our investment and orders with cooperative, 'Sacred Mark' who craft our Kantha Throws
  • Begin a new partnership with a Cambodian fair-trade cooperative

We hope you will look to us, whether online or in our Vancouver Studio for your gift giving, home decor and fashion purchases. Your support of these high quality products and the women who make them, makes a very real and important difference in our world.
