So, today we have reached 115 days in "lockdown" and now more than ever we have to stay safe since we are bound to hit the predicted peak of COVID-19 infections. Luckily at SADiLaR we have moved forward by adjusting to the new normal and things are really getting momentum with online workshops, webinars, new projects, SADiLaR committees and last but not least new members to the SADiLaR family! We are very thankful for Prof Menno who have really steered the Centre with a strong hand and really given all his efforts as well time to attend to all of the staff members duties and needs. I think he is even more thankful that our new Director, Prof Langa, has been appointed and that he can get back to setting up the DH empire in Africa and guide the researchers on their research proposals and articles.
In this newsletter you will find the latest blogs, news on appointments, marketing campaigns as well as CFPs.
Spring is around the corner, so let's enjoy the last couple of months of soups and stews and fireplace stories.
Have a blessed August.

July Blogs:
Our SADiLaR researchers, once again, were on top of things when it comes to blogs and news within the field of digital humanities and digital language resources. Below you can read up on the latest blogs on the SADiLaR web:
Language in the time of a distance creator
In today’s blog the importance and value of language in our current circumstances is discussed. The dual nature of language as a conveyer of information and a medium of encouragement form the basis of the discussion.
This blog provides a general overview of Sesotho sa Leboa language celebration that took place at the University of Limpopo on the 31st of July, 2019. The celebration was organised by SADiLaR in response to UNESCO’s proclamation to declare 2019 as the Year of Indigenous Languages.
In the month of June we started featuring one of our researchers per week, focusing on their current and past research, as well as the projects they have lined up for the future. Here is a shout out to our second month of researchers featured in July:
The Global Wordnet Association is pleased to announce that the 11th International Global Wordnet Conference (GWC2021) will be held from 18 to 21 January 2021 in Pretoria, South Africa.
The conference will be hosted by SADiLaR. Due to the uncertainty of what will be the circumstances during the conference as a result of COVID-19, the venue and format of conference presentation will be announced in due course.
SADiLaR welcomes the new Centre Director, Prof Langa Khumalo. We hope that your time here at SADiLaR will top all your expectations. We are looking forward to learn from your experience and also see great things to sprout from your leadership.
We are also very happy that Lebogang Boeme has joined our team. Lebogang is appointed as the new project manager at the Centre. We are looking forward to working together, especially on various projects. May your journey here at SADiLaR be very successful...
