MOVIE NIGHT

Five Seasons:

The Gardens of Piet Oudolf

Good afternoon gardeners. If you've subscribed to our Fourth & Walnut Gardening and Design website (which you have) you'd likely enjoy a film playing at Michigan Theater this week.

Five Seasons highlights the career, gardens, and design inspiration of garden superstar Piet Oudolf. He's a world-renowned plantsman and designer from the Netherlands. One of the main reasons you see ornamental grasses in our gardens is due to his artistic and horticultural work on the merit of such grasses. Piet is the founder of the "New Perennial Movement," and designs gardens as a painter paints, using large swaths of plants to create blends of color, texture, and unique layering. Fourth & Walnut has imitated his style in our own way as we find our garden design voice.

If you've been to Millennium Park in Chicago or the High Line in New York City, you would have witness his garden design prowess. Soon, we wont have to go even that far to enjoy the Dutch designer's work. He's just agreed to design a garden for Belle Isle in Detroit. We're looking forward to sending updates for any of you who may want to join Fourth & Walnut in volunteering to help install the design.

Fourth & Walnut attended a showing at the DIA earlier this year with Piet answering questions after. As an indication of how much we enjoyed the film, we plan to see the film again this week (Wednesday at the late showing if you'd like to join us). See below for the schedule at Michigan Theater.
