Happy Memorial Day!

In the midst of the long weekend gatherings and grills, hold those you love a little closer and

spend a few minutes honoring those who have given their lives to protect and serve.

Here is a quick snapshot of the Top Shelf items I have been obsessing over the last few weeks! A favorite or new food or recipe crush, a book/quote/podcast, and last but not least, a song I cannot get out of my head. I am so excited to share them with you in the hope of bringing

something new and inspiring into your day!

Pasta Primavera - NYT Style!

I love pasta... all kinds. Pasta with a cream-based sauce is a favorite. OR it used to be. The older I get, the more my body rebels when it comes to heavy cream. So, I've been on the hunt for substitutes. I started seeing Pasta Primavera recipes using Greek yogurt. Sounded so gross to my Southern butter-loving heart, but I had some yogurt and decided to give it a try... many tries.

Absolutely delicious and

just in time for summer veggies!

This New York Times recipe was by far my favorite. I have made it multiple times. Pictured, I added cannellini beans. Every time I add lemon juice right before serving. It is best eaten right away. The leftovers weren't great the first time so I turned them into a cold pasta salad the second and third time around!

"... this singing thing" (?!?)

This is how Barbra Streisand referred to the beginning of her singing career in her autobiography, "My name is Barbra." It's 970 pages long or a 48-hour listen time if you are like me and love listening to people read their memoirs. I started it a couple of weeks ago and am loving every minute!

This quote floored me. It made me wonder what I am stalling on...what are you not starting, not trying? What if our things are like Barbra's "singing thing?" What if the universe is just waiting for us to make a move??

“At the moment of commitment, the entire universe conspires to assist you. And I had committed to giving this singing thing a try.”

"Live Forever" ~ Kate Hudson

"Oh, I was just a little girl. Dove deep into the world

Thought I could take it on and you showed up right by my side

My witness and my light. Now, we've grown up in stride"

Kate Hudson released "Glorious," her debut studio album, on May 17th. As a fan of just about everything she does, I have had it on a loop ever since!

In the wake of Mother's Day, this is my current favorite track.

My daughter, Jett, was born in 1996 and quite literally made me a whole person.

However, in 1989, I got married a couple of weeks after I turned a sheltered and idealistic 19. A few months later was pregnant with my twins.

My marriage crumbled at 21 and I became a single, working mom at 23.

In some ways being Jamey and Justin's mom came as naturally as breathing. But there was so, so much we figured out (...and didn't figure out. LOL) together as the three of us grew up in stride.

To all my fellow Moms, from newbies to those with graduates leaving home:

You are rock stars.

Single, married, working in and/or outside the home, any income, any identity...

Freaking badass rock stars. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

That’s it for this round! Feel free to forward to a friend!  I’ll be back with more. Until then, know that you are a badass…exactly the way you are.  Celebrate YOU a little today!

It’s Time. ~Beth
