A Tangle of Tales July 11–17: Three favorite folktales from around the world come to life with a touch of the familiar and a taste of the new! Imperfect Strangers July 18–24: Worlds collide when an industrious ant and lazy grasshopper find themselves living not-so-happily together. New Spanish Materials Added to YCL Collection |
Living in the U.S. shouldn't mean those who speak and read Spanish can no longer enjoy books in their native language. The Library's Spanish language collection helps reach these patrons and ease their transition as they learn English. The Main Library in Rock Hill houses the majority of our Spanish language materials. |
Branch libraries have smaller collections, but all materials are available to borrow through the Library Catalog. Along with books, DVDs, and audiobooks, you'll find pamphlets, community resource handouts, and information about citizenship. Thanks to a grant from the South Carolina State Library, the collection was recently updated with new nonfiction books on technology, self-help, religion, health care, DIY/crafting, cooking, and parenting. These new materials, selected by bilingual staff, are on display in the Main Library Reference Department for patrons to browse and borrow. |

Eager young readers got an exciting treat during Family Story Time at Miracle Park on June 30, with a special celebration for the park's newly installed StoryWalk®! Louie's Together Playground, the featured story by Dr. Nicole Julia, was unveiled after a special story time. |
This StoryWalk® project, created in partnership with York County Library, York County Disabilities Foundation, and Dr. Nicole Julia, encourages literacy, family time, and physical activity in nature. Guests were invited to tour the YCL Bookmobile and Outreach Van as they walked the path to read or listen to the book. Thanks to all those who came out to enjoy the event and to YCL staff, especially Community Engagement Manager Dina Grant, who spearheaded the project, and Executive Director Jason Hyatt. We also thank the staff of Miracle Park and Will Dalton, who created the sign frames as an Eagle Scout project. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson. |
