June 2022 Occasional Newsletter

Origins Game Fair Authors' Alcove

This newsletter is coming out on the 6th of June instead of the 10th because once again I will be participating in the Authors' Alcove activities at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio. During the times the Dealers' Room is open, as well as on Wednesday afternoon and a bit before opening of the Dealers' Room, the Authors' Alcove will be open. There you can meet your favorite authors, get them to sign your souvenir copy of Rogue Artists, the 2022 Origins Anthology (see the cover above), buy novels, anthologies, and story collections directly from the authors (or their relatives or friends who are manning the table while they are busy with panels ... or lunch. A whole host of panels/seminars on topics of interest to writers and readers will also be held nearby (generally in rooms 212 or 213).

My story, Flower Girl, is included in Rogue Artists. You can get an ebook version of it here or a print version here or at Origins. If you stop by my booth in the Authors' Alcove at Origins, you can get copies of other select Origins anthologies and even a few old GenCon anthologies.

Here's my panel schedule for Origins:

Thursday, 10 a.m. Second Opinions: An outside perspective on your work is important. How do you get it--and how much attention should you give it?

Thursday, 5 p.m., Why Games Matter to Writers: How gaming can help improve your writing.

Friday, 2 p.m., The Art of the Short Story: Practical tips and tricks for writing short stories that sell!

Saturday, Noon, Book to Screen: If you could see one of your books as a film, would you? And which one?

Father's Day Freebie During Origins and on Father's Day

As is my annual tradition, my award-winning short story about my dad is free on Father's Day., Sunday, June 19. Since Origins Game Fair is just over a week earlier, I've also arranged to make it free during four days of the convention, starting on Wednesday, June 8, through Saturday, June 11. Just click here.

If you like the story and want more or just like indie authors to make a bit for their tales, you can always get the Deluxe Three-Pack Edition, which adds two more stories for a price which is no more than buying and sending a Father's Day card. Get it here.

Either works for me. In fact, I've given away thousands of copies of my Father's Day stories over the years because, well, it's about my favorite day with my father ... in addition to being a story most people don't believe is really true, even though it is. Best of all, I got to read it to my dad when he was still alive.

Of course, reviews are always welcomed.

I Now Have Stories on Vocal

You may recall that I've been posting some of my stories on Simily.co. Recently, I've started to post some of the same stories on Vocal.media. (Go to the link and do a search of my name, Donald J. Bingle, to find what I've got posted so far.)

The sites have similar approaches, tossing a bit of cash to authors per read. Vocal also allows readers to tip the author and is a bit more aggressive at hosting contests on prompted subjects. I entered one of their challenges in April, acknowledging the sinking of the Titanic one hundred ten years ago. I didn't win, but I hope you will enjoy my story, which is called "Stress Fracture." You can find it here.

I'm a Panelist at GenCon 2022

I'm returning to the GenCon Writers Symposium this year as a panelist. I won't have a table/booth, but I will be around at many of the panels, providing critiques on Sunday, and possibly signing stories and books at the joint autograph session they are trying to set up. Here's my schedule so far for GenCon, August 4-7, 2022 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hope to see you there.

Thursday, 2 p.m. Tricky Titles

Saturday, 11 a.m. Local Flavor

Saturday, 3 p.m. Ghost Writing

Saturday, 4 p.m. Alternative Futures Sunday, 9, a.m. Read & Critique

Spent part of my Memorial Day finishing up my reading of Hal Walker's excellent Viet Nam memoir, The Grotto, Book One, about his experiences as a helicopter pilot stationed at Phu Bai. This isn't some action-thriller or political creed, just what it was like to be there at the time with a bunch of other, regular guys doing what needed to be done. Check it out here.

The Love-Haight Case Files, Omni Edition of Books 1 & 2

I mentioned in my last newsletter that boxed set or omni versions of multiple book series were all the rage now. You may recall that a boxed set ebook edition of my Dick Thornby Thriller series just came out. Well, an omni version of The Love-Haight Case Files just came out, with all eight cases from Books 1 and 2 in one impressively long book. You can get the ebook here. And, just like the separate volumes, Kindle Unlimited subscribers can download for free. You can even get the omni version in an impressively hefty, 794-page print version here.

THE DEAD OF AUTUMN:

A PIPER BLACKWELL MYSTERY, #5

Jean Rabe, my co-author from The Love-Haight Case Files, has a new book out from her terrific Piper Blackwell mystery series. Here's a bit about the latest book:

The green fairy never made it to the Halloween party and the costumed teen’s gruesome murder sends ripples of fear through Piper Blackwell’s rural Indiana jurisdiction. Investigating the crime plunges the young sheriff and her top detective into a monstrous underworld. Can the battle-hardened duo survive the trip into the dark heart of “idyllic” Spencer County?

And will they find the killer before more lives are destroyed?

WOW! This series just gets better and better with each book. The
DEAD OF AUTUMN is thrilling, with unexpected twists from start to finish. Would make a captivating Netflix series! ~ Cheryl Kaye Tardif, international bestselling author of SUBMERGED

Copies of Net Impact and Wet Work

Explosions, Action, Spycraft, Intrigue, Conspiracies, Family Strife, Adventure, More Explosions!

Dick Thornby is not Hollywood's idea of a spy. He's got a wife, a kid, a mortgage, and a boss who thinks he's too fond of explosives.

I've got some codes left which will allow reviewers to get a free audio-book copy of the first two of my Dick Thornby Thrillers. All you have to do is email me at orphyte@aol.com and request a code. Preference for Wet Work codes for those who tell me they've actually already read (and, hopefully, reviewed) Net Impact.

Quantities are limited and given out entirely at my discretion.

If you want a taste before you ask, check out the link below.
