Tell me . . .

Something Good!

The Official Newsletter of The Good Eggs Foundation

September 2022, Issue 1

WELCOME TO OUR

INAUGURAL ISSUE!

This is such an exciting day for The Good Eggs Foundation. Our Tell me . . . Something Good newsletter is officially here! Each month we will feature a local person from the Metro Detroit area

doing something good for our communities! And we will always keep you up to date with the happenings at The Good Eggs Foundation!

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?

Get ready to read about some amazing people who live among us! Our interviews will always convey something good, highlighting inspiring work from our local creative visionaries. For now, we are focusing on the Detroit area, but we hope to branch out in the future.

ADVERTISING SPACE!

We have advertising space available! If you would like to feature an ad for yourself or your company, fill out the SPONSORSHIP FORM on our website.

We will be in touch to get you featured in our next newsletter. All proceeds from

advertising go to The Good Eggs Foundation and are poured back into the kids of our local communities. Check out our September sponsors below and please patronize!

LAST MONTH'S "EGGING"

In August, we Egged Mercy Education Project, a nonprofit in Southwest Detroit that provides educational and enrichment opportunities for women and girls who have limited access to resources. The Good Eggs helped as an underwriter for their annual golf outing, which raises funds for programming needs.

UPCOMING EVENTS!

YUMMY!

Are you ready for a delicious fundraiser? On September 9 and 10, Livonia Italian Bakery & Cafe will be hosting Cannoli Festa II! You can pre-order or walk in to feast upon eight varieties of cannoli (mocha is my favorite!) We will be there Saturday, September 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. signing books and showcasing the foundation.

You can't resist this - these are the best cannoli in town! A portion of each cannoli sale will be donated to The Good Eggs Foundation! And you need to check out the other amazing baked goods, sandwiches, food, and fancy coffee drinks, too! See you there!

KERRYTOWN BOOKFEST!

After a two year hiatus, the Kerrytown Bookfest in Ann Arbor is back! We will be

there Sunday, September 18 from 10:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. If you're a book lover, this event is for you! Come and visit!

WHAT ARE THE EGGS UP TO THIS MONTH?

(Book 1, Chapter 1)

September - Understanding

The Eggs (Reggie, Megg, Seggourney, and Greggory) are back to school after a fun summer. They notice a new Egg in town, Benedict, who does not seem happy. It took some time, but they

ended up befriending him by understanding his situation and making him feel at home in their town of Albumen.

LET'S GET IT STARTED!

We thought it fitting to begin our first newsletter interview

with our own foundation. Over the summer you have been

learning about

The Good Eggs

Foundation. Now

let's ask some

questions!

Sandra M. Mals

Founder & President

The Good Eggs Foundation

A: I got started by writing the first  book, The Good Eggs. I intended to write only one book, however, it ended up morphing into a series of three. After Book 1, I felt I had to continue writing to develop the series, plots, and the characters on a deeper level. It's been a total joy to create the various storylines and situations, and to give voices and personalities to the Eggs! They each have their own traits and mannerisms, and I even put an "alter-ego" in one of the characters!

A: I wanted to start a nonprofit in order to put the book series into action. Since the books teach about virtues, diversity, and service, the nonprofit grew out of the series. The "Eggings" were also a natural fit. I feel grateful that we are able to provide some assistance and care for many families, kids, and organizations. A little difference can go a long way in the life of a child and help them to feel more comfortable and secure. Seeing all the smiles makes it even better!

A: There are so many! But one specific example that warmed my heart was when a 5th grade teacher emailed me and told me her class asked if they could emulate Book 3, The Good Eggs in the Community. They did all the service examples in the book chapters for their very own local community! That is exactly the result I was hoping for - kids to follow the example of the Eggs. The local newspaper, the St. Clair Shores Sentinel, even did a news story about it!

A: That's me! I use my given name as my pen name. I wanted to honor my name and Italian roots. Using my given name helps me to get in touch with the imagination I had in grade school when I wrote stories and plays. The assignment I loved most was to write stories with the spelling words we received each week and to present the story to the class. I always looked forward to that assignment!

A: Raising funds is challenging but we get creative. We have the amazing Cannoli Festa coming soon thanks to Livonia Italian Bakery & Cafe; our friend and donor, Laurie Rosinski, had a Facebook birthday fundraiser;  and we have had companies like Henry Ford Optim Eyes and Scheers Ace Hardware sponsor us, along with other kind & generous donors. We also do book shows to generate funds. We are so grateful for all of the support!

A: Our future is exciting! We just went through a re-launch over the summer, with new book covers and artwork. I have been a featured guest on several podcasts and other multi-media outlets, along with a couple of press releases. We hope to use the funds generated from all of this to do even BIGGER "Eggings!" One of our big dream "Eggings" is to build a Good Eggs playground for a school in the Detroit area!

We hope you enjoyed this interview!

Next month's interview will feature a woman in Detroit

making a "warm" difference!

See you in October and

thanks for being a Good Egg!

Kindly,
