Dear friends & colleagues, Before I share new tools and offerings, how are you doing? I wish we could sit down for tea or a hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows and whip cream as I make for my 13-year old! One of my favourite things to do is catch up with colleagues and friends and hear how they are doing. I guess it's not surprising that coaching and psychotherapy suit me well. Pre-pandemic, I worked at an in-person office and knew all of my patients' hot drink orders, including herbal teas, apple cider with its soothing aroma, and, yes, hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows. As a physician, I have no formal training as a barista, but my psychotherapy patients felt cared for as I served them. Although my office was quaint and welcoming, shifting to online coaching and psychotherapy has been a wonderful transition. Now my clients brew their own "cuppa", but we still connect in such a meaningful way. They feel heard, understood, and empowered, all from the convenience of their home or office. I'm also able to connect with those from near and far. As I look ahead to this new year, 2022, I also reflect on what I have experienced as an exciting and interesting career. I started in emergency medicine, ran a family practice, worked in urgent care, taught many students and residents, and even became a registered yoga instructor on the side. I love what I do and am grateful for the knowledge I have gained from all aspects of my work and training. As a therapist and coach, I am able to share strategies and insights that have helped me, my patients, and my peers over these past decades as a physician. Do you love what you do? Do you feel fulfilled? Are you well-aligned to your current roles? Are there some tweaks that could help you either enjoy your work more or shift into something more suitable? In my Recharge to Prevent or Overcome Burnout Course (now available on-demand), I share tools that help you "know thyself" and make small or large changes in your life or attitudes that can help you enjoy your work and home life more. It is important to consider your heart's desires, personality, strengths, weaknesses, and practical needs. This worthwhile process can lead to much greater contentment, joy, and peace. If you are looking for help finding more satisfaction in your work, personal, or family life, feel free to contact me to see if personal coaching is right for you. You might also like to learn more about the Recharge program and how you can get started on it today. In This Newsletter... As promised, I have made a recording of the ABC123 Psychological First Aid Tool I created for Covid-19. It accompanies the talks I give and the printable PDFs of the tools available on my website. This recording can be used as a daily practice or as needed to help you feel grounded, calm, and capable. You can use these tools to help yourself or others. You are invited to try a live Yoga Nidra practice Feb 28th, 12-1pm Eastern. Join me on Zoom and be guided in a practice that is deeply relaxing and renewing. Also called "yogic sleep", this practice is ideally done lying down (e.g. on a couch, yoga mat, the floor) or in a reclined position. As usual, I will also be facilitating a variety of free sessions for Canadian physicians this month with the CMA Wellness Connection. Learn how to identify & address distress in physicians; get parenting support; learn how to reduce stress and get organized, and try walking meditation.
