MARCH '21 NEWSLETTER

masoncomics.com.au

#01. 1st Newsletter! Touching on comic stuff and other things going on. Was a busy little month of some stuff (finally) dropping, so that's what this month will focus on, cool?

The Phantom Board game available now!

I'm pleased that the new limited Phantom tabletop board game The Phantom: Treasures of Drakon, with the Kid Phantom solo game pack Kid Phantom: The Battle of Drakon, is now available from Frew Publications!

I have a new page on the website talking briefly about the project, where I show the Kid Phantom game illustrations, with a link to the unboxing video, and if you want, to purchase the game too.

Thank you to all the backers, supporters and creators of the game, whom I elaborate on a little more via the page, and the Latest news blog entry.

WQ Magazine article: "Writing for Coming Books"

Thank you to the Queensland Writers Centre for reaching out and commissioning an article about comics writing, and for the wraparound cover. I didn't know they knew I existed.
The magazine services professional and aspiring writers of various mediums, with this issue focused on writing beyond prose; so VR, Games, Comics, etc.  Thanks to Amanda for her proofing and assisting in edits.
If you want a glimpse into how the comics sausage is made, or want to compare thoughts, you can read the article via the Magazine:

The Phantom: Vietnam

2 Short stories I wrote and drew for Frew Publications were released mid-late last month: featuring Lee Falk's The Phantom during the Vietnam War. These were backup stories in The Phantom #1886 and 1887.

I enjoyed the challenge of these, aiming to write something story and character driven in a short space, and still touch on aspects of historical significance.

More about the stories and how to mail order copies or buy digital copies* via the page on my website.

* Digital comic of The Phantom #1887 TBA.

Redbubble

Quietly started a Redbubble recently, in case someone might want a T-shirt, leggings, scarves, shower curtains, or socks with my scribble on it. As you do...

A range of stuff, a little different product-wise to my other merch store via Teepublic, but a couple of extra designs that I hope a couple of people might like, including Zorro, Soldier Legacy and other nonsense. Both online stores can be accessed via my contacts page here:

https://www.masoncomics.com.au/contact

I see that Redbubble shipping seemings quicker, and possibly cheaper, hence the trial. More ideas on the way, perhaps in line with the creator-owned comic eventually seeing the light of day sometime in the year. *Shrug Emoji.

Anyways, suss out at the link below!

Final words for this month:

Thank you for your support for signing up to news, and extra fist bumps if you've read the recent Phantoms, or grabbed the board game. It's relieving to see work completed in 2019/early 2020 see the light of day.

New stuff in the works re: the current creator-owned comic I'm toiling on; was originally thinking serialising digital and then a graphic novel, but I just saw John Cleese announced he'd written a movie script which touches on the same subject as I wrote in part of my story... so now I'm keen to get at least the first issue done and out this year, before the wind gets knocked out of the sails. More on that soon, if you folks are keen?

There's early talks on another thing which I really hope catches on in both stories, and format which might slow things down on my personal stuff, but we'll see. Reaching interested Australian comic readers in 2021 without a (Marvel) or (DC) after your name is like punching the weather, but we march on, for some dumb reason that I'm just still compelled to write and draw comics.

Thank you so much for reading and supporting this nonsense. I'm back at Uni for now, so I must get on to completing the next lecture.
Any questions or suggestions on what you'd like to see in these monthly newsletters, feel free to message me via the email or socials.

I hope you are all safe and well, cheers and speak soon!

Paul.
