Writing Journey - Hometown Inspiration |
|

Tequila Midnight comes out in less than a month. In the sequel to La Paloma, Jessica has grown up and moved from nightclubs in Juarez to bars in El Paso. In chapter one she visits her favorite bar, and the inspiration for this particular establishment comes from an El Paso institution, Kings X. |

I haven't been there in years, but I remember great music on the jukebox and an always hopping pool table. It's a place to start or end a fun night. I've included a few photos of Kings X thanks to its owner, El Pasoan Ted Aiken. I plan on stopping by next time I'm in town. |

Attached to Kings X is Lucy's Restaurant, another famous El Paso hangout. Lucy's is delicious, and I especially love their machaca. Machaca is shredded beef sauteed with onions, tomatoes, and eggs and covered in chile con queso. It's so good that when my best friend from high school went to college at the University of Washington, her mom would freeze machaca burritos and take them to her when she visited. |

Happy Travels: Zion National Park, Utah, USA |

This photo is from a vacation a few years ago. Our national parks are true treasures. I can't wait to visit a new (to me) park this summer, Acadia National Park in Maine. |
