FEB NEWSLETTER

Check out what the 'Charny Army' have been up to

Welcome to February's edition of the Charnwood AC newsletter. As ever, lots of things going on. There's been success in the mud at the Midlands XC championships and there are a lot more dates for your diary. It is also time to remind you about your membership renewals, so read on!

At the monthly committee meeting on 7th Feb 2020 the annual membership fee was discussed and it was agreed that there needs to be a small increase. The Annual Membership fee for 2020/21 will be £40, rising for later renewals. We try to keep any rise as small as we can but England Athletics fees have increased by £1 and we have just completed some maintenance works on the clubhouse so an increase has been necessary. If you want to discuss this or any other club matter then please let a member of the committee know or get in contact through the email address below.

All club members must renew their club membership from 1st March 2020. You will not be able to compete for the club until your membership is renewed. Late renewal fee increases will apply from 1st April onwards, so please do make sure to renew asap in March otherwise it will cost you more. Further details at the bottom of this newsletter so please keep reading.

As ever, if you have any news or photos, or want to contribute an article, then please email contact@charnwoodac.co.uk.

Technology in Sport Survey

We would be very grateful if you could take some time to help with a survey that a final year student is doing. David is also the club statistician and has worked on the club records for the last few years to the great benefit of us all. Your help would be very much appreciated.

There are three surveys, for athletes, officials and spectators/fans of sport. These surveys have a reference to the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, described as the most technologically advanced championship so far. They refer to topics like the Block Cam, Launch Parameters and the Light Shows, as well as questions about current officiating technologies. Opinions are also sought on statements regarding sports and technology.

Outdoor Water Dispenser

You may have noticed a strange black box on the side of the club house as you pay at the gate. This appeared this month and houses a new external water dispenser. Following up on changing to fully recyclable tea/coffee cups (yes, put them in the recycling bins please!!!), we are now looking to encourage people to bring their own water bottles and fill them at this tap rather than selling vast amounts of plastic bottled water.

Starting Blocks

We have been given a second hand set of starting blocks as per picture. If you are interested in these then please let us know in the clubhouse or through the contact email address. The seller is happy to accept a reasonable bottle of wine in exchange!
