Half way through October! Are you "fall"ing in love with your practice this season? (very punny) For the rest of this month, we are going to explore Savasana. They say it's the most important pose, but why? Savasana, meaning "corpse pose" is a pose of active rest. It is the pose we return to at the end of each practice once we've done our work. The body, mind, and spirit have an opportunity now to actively rest, restore, and reground. But this is not where savasana ends. The most important component of savasana is that we are preparing the body, mind, and spirit to rise again, totally renewed, totally refreshed, totally ready to face the journey ahead. The practice itself is there for savasana. We are preparing the body to be renewed and refreshed, welcoming what we need and releasing what we don't. So the next time you settle into that final pose, truly give yourself the opportunity to let the work and the practice settle, so that you can rise, ready to manifest your truest path.

  • Yoga Therapist
    • As many of you know, I am starting my Masters of Science in Yoga Therapy and my C-IAYT 1000hr certification this fall. For the next two years, I will be out of town periodically for the program. Classes will be held as usual, with the occasional change, and we will be welcome our lovely Anja back to the studio to help keep the yoga flowing here at YwL. I am excited to bring you more knowledge and tools to help support you in your journey! Thank you for your support and community.

    One summer in grad school, Amanda decided to try a hot power vinyasa class in the style of Baron Baptiste. From there, she was hooked. Amanda’s passion for yoga was sparked by the ability to lose herself in the practice and to fall into the present. The intense yoga practice with which she had fallen in love gave her a reason to start taking care of herself by getting more sleep, drinking more water, and eating healthier. As yoga started changing her life, she started noticing the words her teachers were telling her on her mat were starting to creep into other aspects of her life. In 2014, Amanda finished her 200-hour teacher training at Tribal Yoga, an affiliate of Rolf Gates Vinyasa Teacher Training. The philosophy and power of yoga have helped to pull her through periods of stress and anxiety and she successfully finished her PhD shortly after her teacher training. 

     

    An eternal student, Amanda is constantly studying different aspects and types of yoga to deepen her understanding of the practice. It is her hope to apply what she learns to help her students as best as she possibly can. Amanda has taken mentorships with Meaghan de Roos at Breathe Yoga Center in yoga anatomy with Dr. Ariele Foster, DPT. Her interests have led her to weekend workshops with Jason Crandell and Rolf Gates and lunar AcroYoga immersions. She tries to incorporate all facets of wellness ranging from myofascial release to essential oils to just paying attention to your own body! Her classes are meant to be instructive but are always open to a little lighthearted fun.

      • Halloween falls on Energy Flow day! This will be a special event BLACKLIGHT ALL-LEVELS FRIENDLY class! (this is not electro style, this will be a light hearted flow). Feel free to dress in your favorite and spookiest costumes (although dressing up is not mandatory to join the class)!
    • Learn to Fly Part 1: Intro to Arm Balances
      • November 9
      • 2:00pm-4:00pm @ YwL
      • $35
      • 2 CEU available. Join me in this fun-filled 2 hour workshop where we will break down the basics of arm balances. We will explore how to engage the core and breath, categorize the different poses, and explore the poses you can work to build your flying practice! You do not have to have arm balances in your practice to attend! All levels welcome! Bring your mat and be ready to explore!

    • Learn to Fly Part 2: Intro to Inversions
      • November 23
      • 2:00pm-4:00pm @ YwL
      • $35
      • 2 CEU available. Join me in this fun-filled 2 hour workshop where we will break down the basics of inversions. We will explore how to engage the core and breath, the basic mechanics of how to invert, and explore the poses you can work to build your flying practice! You do not have to have inversions in your practice to attend! All levels welcome! Bring your mat and be ready to explore!
    • Just Roll with It! Myofascial Release Workshop
      • Sunday December 1pm-3pm
      • @ Yoga with Lian

      • Welcome Amanda Chou to YwL for this two-hour workshop on myofascial self-treatment! You may have heard a little bit about muscles, ligaments, and tendons, but how much have you heard about the fascia? She'll cover some information and a brief talk about the fascia and then we'll talk about some techniques for self-treatment. Bring two tennis balls and a (clean) old tube sock and get ready to roll with it! This is the perfect workshop for to help wind down from the weekend holiday activities!
