UPCOMING EVENTS

A Spirited Evening at Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum

Friday, September 24, 2021

7pm - midnight

Join us as we explore the beautiful and haunted Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum for an exciting group paranormal investigation! The spirits at the mansion were very active for our last event there in May. What do they have in store for us this time? Come and see for yourself!

The evening begins with a discussion of the history of the location and then it is "lights out" as we communicate with the spirits who still call this historic location home.

The cost of the event is $38 per person. $20 for students 12-18 years old and 18-23 years old, with student ID. All of the ticket proceeds for this event benefit the restoration and preservation of Ventfort Hall Mansion. This event, like all our events, is family-friendly!

These events sell out quickly! Please call Ventfort Hall at (413) 637-3206 to reserve your spot!

COVID Requirements: Please note that all guests and staff at September 24th's event are required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. Signed waivers are also required from all guests.

Blanche and Henry Reed are the focus of my book Bludgeoned: The Reed Double Murder. The brother and sister were ruthlessly murdered in their tiny little home that they shared in North Adams, Massachusetts. This crime was never solved.

One concern I did have while writing the book was the way I was portraying Henry. I walked a fine line reporting the facts without soiling his name. The press did not portray him in a kind or compassionate matter. Henry was a loan shark and his clients were desperate people in a serious financial pinch. As you can imagine, there were many historical reports that did not paint him in a favorable light. Never in a million years did I expect to hear from him - but I did.

From time to time I collaborate with the amazing and talented psychic medium Rebecca LoCicero. Rebecca has helped us as a group leader during some of our events and from time to time she will present Messages from Heaven before our group paranormal investigations. One day I decided to go to one of her Messages from Heaven group readings because I really wanted to hear from the subject of one of my other books. The message I received that day surprised me!

Shortly after I took my seat and the event began, I felt a very strong energy appear on my left side that stay there. At the time I thought whoever it was had been patiently waiting because Rebecca took some time to get to the area in which I was seated. As she moved closer, she looked at me with a particular look and then hunched over in pain. She grabbed an area just above her eye and exclaimed that it felt as if she had been hit by a hammer. Yikes! Immediately my heart started to pound as I realized who had been standing near me. It was Henry Reed. How did I know? He was murdered in bed when his assailant bludgeoned him with a sledgehammer above his eye. The murderer then took Henry's pistol from under the pillow and shot Blanche Reed when she came to investigate the noise. It is important to state that this reading happened before the book was published and Rebecca had no knowledge of the books I was writing.

Honestly, for that split second I was a nervous wreck. I tried so hard to make Henry someone to feel compassion for. The accounts from his neighbors, friends and customers did not paint him in a favorable light. I figured I was going to get chewed out for how I portrayed him in my book. Surprisingly, Rebecca had told me that he was proud and he wanted to thank me for all of the work that I did. I could not believe my ears. He must have known the struggle and concerns that I had with my portrayal of him. It provides another example in how strong the spirit world truly is. A man who was murdered in 1897 was aware of my efforts and waited patiently by my side to provide me that message. I needed to hear that and he knew it too.

WALKING AMONGST THE SHADOWS

Undisclosed Cemetery (Identity being protected)

Our paranormal investigation group started like many others, learning the craft in public places before venturing out onto private cases. Many years ago our team was investigating a very old cemetery. We obtained permission from the cemetery's board first.

One of the claims of activity in this cemetery was that of a young boy being seen in a certain section of the graveyard. This was a claim I was intending to investigate with our team. Upon arriving an hour before sunset, I noticed a parking lot for a commercial enterprise near the cemetery walls. I thought I had debunked a common claim. I figured that when a car pulls in or backs out of a space, the gravestones would cast quick moving shadows that could confuse other people. In fact, when the sun set, I did witness this happening in person. I was satisfied thinking that I 'debunked' a story that had been an 'urban legend' and would lure people to trespass.

However, that satisfaction was short-lived. The cemetery became very active that night, and that young boy let his presence be known.  As we were walking down the main road within the cemetery, I saw a shadow figure run by at a speed that would be very difficult for a living person. Not to mention dangerous as a cemetery would have countless tripping hazards. This figure was seen easily because of nearby street lights and the fact that there was a full moon on a cloudless evening. The shadow figure looked small, like a child, and ran into the location where legend tells of a small boy. Of course, we had to explore.

I was conducting an EVP session where I had seen the shadow figure ultimately end up. I asked if there was a "Bristol" present that evening. This is a name that many people have claimed to have received. Unknown at that time, I recorded a boy's voice say "yes". Since I did not hear the response at that time, I saw many stones with another common last name. I asked "Is there a Johnson with us that night?" Again, unknown at that time, I recorded that same voice state "Bristol".

As I was standing in the cemetery, I then saw a small shadow figure emerge from behind a large gravestone about ten feet away from us. The full moon was behind my back so the area was considerably lit. If that was a living person it was bright enough that I would have seen facial features. Vanessa, who was part of our original team, was scanning the cemetery and the figure was behind her back. I was speechless as I was stunned to see a shadow figure so close to us. As I started to say something about that sight, the shadow figure then slowly ducked behind the large gravestone and disappeared.

I planned on debunking a common claim only to have witnessed what so many had witnessed themselves. Not only that, but we have recorded evidence of the boy not only confirming his presence, but also providing his name as well.  We returned to that cemetery many times throughout the years. The last time we had some serious issues with the spirits (one of us was scratched, another became violently ill). I don't know if other groups have done anything to attract a darker presence in what had been a peaceful location. That is a risk when urban legends attract attention.
