2020 MATLACHA HOOKERS’ SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

On June 8, 2020 the Matlacha Hookers will award eleven scholarships during their meeting at the House of Omelets Restaurant in Cape Coral.

Each recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship to be used at any post-secondary institution.

The total amount the Matlacha Hookers have awarded through the “Hooked on Education” Scholarships since 2003 is over $191,000.

We congratulate these students and are happy to play a part in their future educational goals.

They have shown tenacity, flexibility and passion in pursuing a scholarship during a challenging pandemic event.

Scholarship Recipients

Nancy Harwood from Matlacha recently passed away.  She was an active Matlacha Hooker for many years, but was more housebound over the last few years.

Her sons have donated all of their mother’s clothing and belongs to us for the Bag ‘n Tag !

Let’s show them the best of the Matlacha Hookers with a card shower of condolences and appreciation.

BOOK CORNER

We are all searching for something new to read...send in your favorite read with a one line description !

Chris Buntin one of our board members  recommends "Lady Clementine" by Marie Benedict ... a fantastic fiction of Mrs. Winston Churchill

Cindy Walton our Hooker Secretary recommends "Cold Sassy Tree" by Olive Ann Burns...a sweet, simple story told by 14 year old Will in 1906 Georgia.

(don't bother with the sequel !)

Principal Hook of the Pine Island Elementary school has retired and the Hookers participated in the vehicle parade in his honor.

Linda Lee and Deb Cundall were walkers and Billie Young, Genie Andrews, Elida Byard, Chris and Joel Buntin,

Linda Bohacek, Madam DJ, and Helen Andrews were in their vehicles among many other cars !
