Meet 14th District Unsung Heroine Stephanie Zwilling

On March 7, Cook County celebrated the Peggy A. Montes Unsung Heroine Award, which recognizes women from each district for their often unrecognized contributions to the community. District 14 highlighted Stephanie Zwilling, who founded Providence Farm, a community for young adult men in recovery from substance abuse and mental health disorders. The program supports young adults to re-integrate into the communities they call home.

Statement from Commissioner Britton on State Legislation Addressing Property Tax Assessments

"We need reforms to our property tax system to ensure predictable, transparent and equitable practices. As a village trustee, I saw first hand the havoc that can wreck budgets when the system is inaccurate and companies receive big appeal refunds. It makes it impossible to plan and takes services away from the children and families who need it most. These changes are needed on every level, from first time home buyers and small business owners to school districts and municipal governments."

Remembering Our Fallen Heros

On Saturday, February 23, the Palatine Fire Department commemorated the basement fire at the Ben Franklin five-and-dime store in downtown Palatine that occurred 46 years ago. Tragedy struck that day and those heroes who were first inside made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community. I wrote a letter thanking the Palatine Fire Department for memorializing the valor and dedication of those who have fallen and for continuing their commitment to fire service.
