"ONE UNIT, ONE FOCUS, ONE FAMILY"

From the President's Pen

It looks like we made it to 2023. Happy New Year. There is something about starting a new year. We feel like maybe it is a new start. We get a second chance. We make resolutions to reach goals, to improve our lifestyle.  January 1st, that magic day that can turn your life around. 😉

I did a little research on resolutions. According to discoverhealthyhabits.com.

·         Out of 41% of those that make resolutions about 9% feel they were successful.

·         Most popular is being healthy, which is exercising more, eating better or losing weight (my category)

·         2nd is saving money (me too)

·         Baby boomers are most concerned with losing weight

·         Millennials are most confident in keeping their resolutions

·         Gen Z wants to find love

·         Losing weight is more in the Midwest while west coasters are exercise

·         (My favorite) The southern states want to drink less alcohol,

·         Northeast has more people wanting to stop completely but twice as likely to spend more time volunteering in the community.

I do not necessarily set resolutions, but I have a vision template I use each year and evaluate what my Personal Why. It is based off Franklin Covey. I was a big fan of their paper planners.

·         I am my best when:

·         I will try and prevent times when:

·         I will enjoy my work by:

It works for me and helps me look back and reevaluate where I am, without breaking a resolution.

What is ahead for unit 62?

Jan 8 @ 2pm we are hosting the district meeting. Josie will be serving tacos and burritos for our bingo. I heard her tacos are the best!

This month we are holding a workshop for our E-Committee on report writing and preparing for the reports that need to be turned into department in May.

At our general meeting Jan 17. 6PM we will start with the men to hear from Mission 22. A program for our Veterans dealing with issues from PTSD, brain injury and sexual trauma. They support the Veterans, families and community. To learn more visit https://mission22.com/.

Our monthly dinner will be Beef Stroganoff. Jan 18

We have an event for Past President Nadine Ruehs for her birthday celebration. Jan 22 @ 11.

If you are interested in volunteering. Please send an email to unit62ala@gmail.com. We have lots of opportunities coming this year. A couple we need right away.

·         We need someone to do Saturday Bingo lunches. This is every Saturday but hoping we can find several people to rotate this event.

·         We have our bar Bingo 2nd Sunday each month we are responsible for the food.

It is shaping up to be a busy year. We will continue to focus on our Veterans, families, our active military and community. Without you we could not be as successful as we are. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kathy Amery
