Are You Feeling Anxious?

How are you dealing with everything lately? Experts have noted that rates of stress and anxiety have gone up during Covid. And if you are affected by world events, the news coming out of Afghanistan may have left you feeling very raw. Especially considering the plight of the women.

So, how are you dealing with everything? How are you coping?

Symptoms of anxiety can include:

Feeling stressed and overwhelmed

Feeling irritable and/or "on edge"

Feeling jumpy

Feeling helpless or a loss of hope

Feeling unable to concentrate

Feeling worried

Anxiety and stress can affect people physically with symptoms including:

Loss of appetite (or emotional overeating)

Change in heart rate
An upset stomach

Tense neck and shoulder muscles

Grinding teeth during sleep

Weight gain

Hormonal imbalances with particular effects on women's cycle and associated physical pain

If you've been feeling overwhelmed, I encourage you to reach out for help and support. You might confide in a loved one, discuss this with your doctor or health practitioner, or even call Lifeline in Australia on 13-11-14.

I am also available for coaching and support, so please reach out to me for a consultation if I can help. For those worried about financial aspects, please reach out anyway and we can sort something out. It's important to look after yourself during this time. And if you are a care giver and/or parent this is especially important!

Here are some resources and information that may benefit you right now...

Physically - remember to get the recommended 8 hours of sleep. Try not to skip meals (I've noticed that this makes anxiety worse for many people). If your appetite is low, some common spices are known to help remedy this such as black pepper and cumin in cooking or even drinking half a teaspoon of cumin in a glass of  warm water. Here are more helpful dietary insights.

If you are feeling anxious, uptight, highly strung, stressed, overwhelmed, fragile or irritated then there are also some wonderful herbal medicines that support the nervous system and the mind and body. It might be worth reaching out to a Naturopath or herbalist to get a formula made up. If I may be of assistance here please feel free to reach out to me. When working with overwhelmed people I've found that drinking 3 cups of calming tea per day can be very helpful - this can be calming tea blends purchased from a supermarket.

Keep your eyes and ears open for helpful resources such as this page from the University of Melbourne. You might find that keeping occupied and being of service to others might help. Find something positive to focus on such as growing herbs and vegetables, pursuing a hobby, adopting an exercise routine, spring cleaning, volunteering etc.

There are some free Mindfulness practices here - with recordings for mindfulness visualizations and relaxations. People who utilise mindfulness often report an increased feeling of emotional balance and wellbeing!

Many people have used covid to pursue creative expansion and to learn new skills. Check out these videos for some great ideas (including for children!)

Please take care of yourself and your loved ones during this time. Now more than ever it's important that we keep shaping the world into a positive place that our children will be happy to live in. If we cultivate calm, then we can be more constructive, more creative, more enlightened, we can contribute more, and we can start to enjoy each day rather than suffering through them.

So, please do reach out to someone if you are struggling during this time and remember there are different solutions and strategies available to leave you feeling more positive : )

Best Wishes,

Guess which vitamin has
been researched in regards
to Covid 19?

~ Vitamin D ~

(aka the sunshine vitamin)

Note - low vitamin D is also linked with depression

While we make vitamin D naturally from exposure to sunlight, many studies have outlined that many people are deficient in this vitamin.

Vitamin D levels can be measured via a blood test.

The best form of supplementation is Vitamin D3 supplements that are made from algae. These are easily available at pharmacies, health food stores and many online stores.
