How you can get involved
We are currently seeking volunteers, donations, and various sites to assist restoration efforts for those impacted by the Hurricanes in the Gulf Coast. We are focused on making sure we are connecting people impacted with culturally mindful supplies and services.
Our culturally mindful response to disaster recovery occurs within our Community Restoration Project initiative. An initiative created during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, when it was clear that Black and Brown people were negatively impacted without consistent assistance.
We honor that we are still flowing through a pandemic and have curated space to be safe for people volunteering and receiving assistance. We are seeking volunteers to assist with providing access to direct services, collection and distribution of resources and supplies, and more.
Our first area of focus is to safely provide people impacted with their basic needs, food, shelter, hygiene products, and clothes. We will then phase into helping connect people to resources that will assist with restoring their lives through connecting them to legal services, services for people diagnosed with various sexually transmitted infections, services for people who speak other languages than English, and assistance with navigating FEMA, Red Cross and other systems to get their state issued benefits.
Healing is an important part of culturally mindful disaster relief, and we are seeking people with a background in trauma informed services, herbalists, and other forms of natural healers to assist volunteers and people impacted. Any assistance that can be provided virtually is also needed. We seek to collaborate with birth workers and advocates for mamas and their families as womayn of the global majority are still pregnant and having babies during and after a hurricane.
We are collecting donations to assist purchase gas cards, feminine hygiene products, baby food, diapers, and wipes, and more. We are accepting donations via Paypal here, and Venmo at $muhammadchristina. We have collaborated with Survive2Thrive to help place people in hotel rooms instead of shelters. Please donate at www.survive2thrivefoundation.org and you can donate through Cash App $s2tf and through Venmo @Survive2Thrive. Please donate to Survive2Thrive to help continue place people in hotel rooms.
