Newsletter

The IAL website

Dear members of the IAL,

I am delighted to open our most recent newsletter!

The IAL is an established society of scholars and practitioners with an interest in promoting the study and practice of good legislation. You have elected a Board of Vice Presidents led by a President. As the current President, I am delighted to work with a team of such high profile and active colleagues, each one of whom has undertaken to offer their time in looking after a specific portfolio for the IAL.

In my first year as President, we formed a collective collegiate presiding team.

VP Prof. Patricia Popelier has organised a highly successful IAL Annual Conference in Antwerp, and is currently working on the edited volume for Nomos/Hart with contributions from many of the speakers. In that work Prof. Popelier is assisted by VPs Professors Silveira and Uhlman and IAL member Mr Robinson.

VP and Treasurer Prof. Mauro Zamboni has re-organised the finances of the IAL. We can finally accept paypal payments and we are able to send reminders of fees outstanding.

VP Prof. Claudio Radaelli has undertaken to establish links with organisations and associations complementary to the IAL. On this front, we have now linked our website and our activities to those of the CommonwealthAssociation of Legislative Counsel.

VP and Secretary Dr Maria Mousmouti has tackled the issue of membership lists. We finally have an accurate list of members. Our new members are welcomed by a letter that directs them to our website.

The new website was compiled by VP Prof. João Tiago Silveira and his team of IAL members and interns Rui Lanceiro and Inês Inverno. The new website carries all activities of the IAL and its members and has become a lively useful hub of information in legislation worldwide.

This newsletter is a culmination of the efforts of Dr Mousmouti and the Lisbon team. We are reaching out to each and every one of our members with a select list of news and events from the website. We are also inviting members to share their news, events, and activities with the membership. Collectively, we produce the bulk of input to the study of legislation worldwide. Let us take this opportunity to learn more about each other and to network. Joining forces with other members can only strengthen both our individual work and of course the impact of our Association.

I very much look forward to reading your news, and of course to welcoming you all to our next IAL Conference in Rome on 25 October 2019 at the Senate. Our members and distinguished colleagues Professors di Benedetto, Lupo, and Rangone (in alphabetical order) have a fantastic conference at an outstanding location in store. All following our new Annual AGM on 24 October 2019.

Before I close, please allow me to express my warm felt thanks to all of the colleagues mentioned here. It is a privilege to learn from them. And to extend an equally warm invitation to all members to enrich ournewsletter and our association with their own contributions.

Kindest regards to all,

Prof. Helen Xanthaki
