OCTOBER recap & more...

Happy day, my friends!

I hope you had a great October. As someone who loves exercising outdoors, I pay close attention to the weather. The first weeks of October were a source of excitement as the fall weather began. I remember it being perfect - temperatures in the low 80s, mid-70s, bright blue skies, and a gentle breeze. However, over the past three days, we've experienced winter weather with temperatures in the 30s and 40s, gray skies, and rain. It marked the arrival of our first cold front this season.

Initially, I wanted to complain, wondering, "Where is my beautiful, perfect weather?" But then I realized that complaining wouldn't change anything. So, I decided to embrace the weather change. I pulled out my thermals, sweaters, coats, boots, and winter accessories, bundled up, and went for my morning jog. To my surprise, I enjoyed it. This experience made me realize the amazing power of adaptation that we, as humans, possess. Adaptation is one of our strengths that has helped us thrive as individuals and as a society. We can use this power to our advantage.

As the cold season approaches, I'm considering different ways to adapt. For exercising, there's the option of working out indoors at home or in a gym. But since I love the outdoors, I've decided to shift my jogging time from 6:00 am, the freshest time during the hot season, to 5:00 pm, a warmer part of the day. This way, I can continue to exercise and enjoy the outdoors. How will you use adaptation to your advantage? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below or send me an email.

Now, let's move on to the October recap.

The first one, titled "Choosing Love over Fear: A Key to Mental and Emotional Health," explores our multidimensionality (Spirit, Mind & Body) and forgiveness as a way to transform emotions rooted in fear into love. The second post, "The Science Behind the Law of Attraction," delves into how energy, vibrations, and frequency play a crucial role in understanding how this law works. You can check out these blog posts by clicking on the links in the section below.

Health Science: The Role of Serotonin in Long COVID and Viral Infections

In a study titled "Serotonin reduction in post-acute sequelae of viral infection," researchers have shed light on a critical link between SEROTONIN and viral infections, including "Long COVID." Long COVID, characterized by persistent symptoms after recovering from COVID-19, remains a global health challenge. This study reveals that individuals with Long COVID experience reduced serotonin levels. Serotonin plays a vital role in various bodily functions, including mood, sleep, digestion, nausea, wound healing, bone health, blood clotting, sexual desire. Some studies have also suggested a connection between low serotonin levels and memory-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s. Viral infections and type I interferon-induced inflammation contribute to serotonin reduction through multiple mechanisms: decreased absorption of tryptophan (serotonin's precursor), platelet hyperactivation impacting serotonin storage, and increased serotonin turnover. This serotonin deficiency impairs vagus nerve activity, resulting in hippocampal dysfunction and memory loss, potentially explaining the neurocognitive symptoms associated with viral persistence in Long COVID and other post-viral syndromes. These findings suggest a promising pathway for understanding post-viral syndromes and offer insights for potential therapeutic interventions.

Nutrition: Unlocking the Nutritional Power of Kiwi Skin

In this informative article from Cleveland Clinic Health Essentials, you'll discover the nutritional potential of kiwi skin. It's not just edible; it's also packed with nutrients that can benefit your health. Kiwifruit, including its skin, provides a significant boost in dietary fiber, increasing the fiber content by up to 50%. Additionally, kiwi skin contains three times more antioxidants than the fruit's flesh, helping your body combat free radicals and oxidative stress. Moreover, it's rich in folate, which is essential for various bodily functions. However, if you have a history of kidney stones, caution is advised, as kiwi skins are high in oxalates, which could exacerbate the condition. So, whether you prefer fuzzy green kiwis or smoother-skinned gold kiwis, this article highlights the advantages of consuming kiwi with its skin intact, adding an extra layer of nutrition to this already healthy fruit. Fitness: Corrective Exercise Specialization

With the advancement of technology and increased automation, individuals are finding themselves working longer hours in repetitive motion and/or in front of a computer which requires them to move less on a daily basis. In addition, leisure time is spent in sedentary activities, like: watching TV, social media browsing and computer games. This lifestyle leads to reduced physical activity, impaired muscle function, and a higher risk of musculoskeletal pain and injury. Taking the well-being of her community into account, Coach Edna enrolled in a Corrective Exercise Specialization this month. This specialization will equip her with the knowledge and tools to better serve her clients. Corrective Exercise involves an integrated assessment process to identify muscle dysfunction, develop a plan of action to resolve the dysfunction, and implement an integrated corrective strategy. The objective of the exercise program is to optimize the movement quality of the participants, enabling them to perform at a level consistent with their desired fitness or performance goals.
