'360' Newsletter

Ramin Yazdanpanah, Ph.D. | August 3, 2023

Understanding that we serve our learning communities best when we attend to both our professional and personal growth, this easy-to-digest weekly newsletter presents a resource for English language students, a professional development (PD) resource for educators, a quote to inspire, and a question to ponder. It really is the little things we do consistently that lead to great outcomes.

Financial literacy, a holistic approach to PD, envisioning, fear as a motivator, MFT music

Happy '360' Thursday! Here are this week's resources, a quote, and a question...as well as some music medicine for the soul.

Student Resource

Financial Literacy

Financial literacy is the ability to use knowledge and skills to effectively manage financial resources. The more you know about credit, banking services, taxes, and basic money management, the more likely you will improve your financial well-being. Understanding basic financial skills can also be critical to protecting against financial scams, planning for the future, and increasing quality of life.

The Florida Literacy Coalition offers educators and students access to online resources. To access their wealth of financial literacy resources, click here.

Tip for students: Skim the resources on the website and select one or two that catch your eye. If the resource is helpful, read it carefully and write down new ideas and vocabulary to discuss with friends, family, classmates, and teachers.

PD Resource

A holistic approach to PD (with Ramin Yazdanpanah) - Episode 28

I had the pleasure of speaking with Anna and Shey from "The Teacher Think-Aloud Podcast" on approaches to PD, teacher well-being, and life in general. In the episode, I provide a guided mindfulness meditation to help you envision how you might approach your professional growth this year.

Tip for teachers: Consider applying a similar mindfulness exercise with colleagues in teacher meetings, workshops, or classes with students. Mindfulness exercises can be a great way to reflect on knowledge, attitudes, and experiences that can then be leveraged toward learning and growth.

Quote

A vision without a plan is just a dream.
A plan without a vision is just drudgery.
But a vision with a plan can change the world.

~Nelson Mandela

Question

In last week's issue, I asked, "What is a fear that is holding you back?" This week I ask, what is a fear that is motivating you forward?

Until next week,

Dr. Yaz

p.s. Remember, we are all in this together.

p.p.s. Musical recommendation of the week (and shameless self-promotion) "Hey Yidaki" by my band, the Maharajah Flamenco Trio.
