Madam Letter Ladies, I hope this finds you all enjoying this beautiful Spring. I just took a week off and spent time away with Tom and our best friends and what a difference a week of R&R can make for the mind, body and soul. It was very needed and most enjoyable! Can't wait for the next trip. I know that many of you are getting ready to head farther north or have already left. Please keep in touch this summer! We'll continue to publish the Hooker Heralds several times a month and check the website for meeting minutes or upcoming events. Remember that you can still 'attend and participate' in meetings online. Our help is requested for the upcoming Postal Food Drive on May 14th. Please volunteer if you can. During the month of May all of the documents for the Pine Island Elementary Fishing Tournament & Derby will be posted to the website and will also be sent out in a dedicated Herald. July will be our School Supply Drive with drop off locations to follow, then our next event is the 4th of July Parade! It's so much fun!!! We'll have a planning meeting sometime in mid-June. The 4th is on a Monday this year, so that will give us the Saturday and Sunday before for final prep. If you have a large trailer or houseboat that we can use, please let me know. We already have a theme, but we're keeping that under wraps for now! Finally, it is with deep sadness to share the Mel Meo passed away. Her Memorial Service will be on May 14th at Our Lady of Miraculous Medals Catholic Church in Bokeelia. Mel was not only a gifted artist, but a beloved long time Pine Islander. She believed in preserving our laid back and rural lifestyles; the fishing culture, our beautiful natural resources and sharing with others. Her kindness and generosity will be missed by all of us. Proud to be a Matlacha Hooker! Madam DJ |

Herald and website content submissions, along with questions or concerns should be sent to Karen Durand at MHwebmistress@gmail.com. Please do not email to Karen by forwarding a Herald publication. Since we use the free version of WIX for both our website and emails, the Herald emails actually go out under a different email address which she does not have access to. |
