MYAN WA Forum - Mental Health Self-Advocacy

To finish off the year, MYAN WA is excited to be able to return to our forum. This forum will be focused on the topic of mental health self-advocacy by migrant and refugee young people. This event will give you a unique opportunity to hear directly from refugee and migrant young people about their experiences in navigating primary care and mental health services, the ways they and other young people can better advocate for themselves in these settings and the skills and knowledge other young people should be aware of. We will also be discussing findings from MYAN WA’s COVID surveys and consultations in particular around the impact on mental health and wellbeing. This forum will also provide settlement, youth and community sector workers the knowledge on how to educate migrant and refugee young people about the skills and knowledge needed for mental health self-advocacy.

The first half of the forum will include a panel with lived experienced speakers and service providers, with plenty of time to ask questions. Then following a networking morning tea, you will have a chance to delve deeper into the topic through round table discussion.

*Further panellists will be announced closer to the date.*

Please contact myanwa@yacwa.org.au if you have any questions regarding the forum.

State of the Youth Sector Forum

On Friday 25 September, we’re bringing together the brightest minds from the youth sector to build a new normal for young people in Western Australia at the State of the Youth Sector Forum. Each year, YACWA invites youth workers, advocates and young people themselves to workshop the big issues affecting our sector. This year, in light of the upheaval form COVID-19 lockdown and in the lead-up to WA’s state election, we have an opportunity to fundamentally rethink the way our systems serve young people.

The ideas we generate as a collective here will help shape YACWA’s pre-budget submission, our state election platform and our future advocacy for the young people and the youth sector. For those living outside of Perth or otherwise unable to attend the physical event – we’ll be hosting an online companion event, State of the Youth Sector Forum Digital on 2 October, for which you can register below.

This basically means if you make a new claim for either JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, or Austudy you might have to wait a little while until you receive your payment. Surveys

Women from culturally diverse backgrounds in leadership project

There is a large underrepresentation of women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds who are leaders throughout many sectors, including sport.

To help create diverse and inclusive workplaces in sport, we need to understand what prevents or encourages women to be a leader. Your input will be combined with hundreds of other women’s and findings will be transferred into strategies to assist sport organisations.

The following survey focuses on women who:

• Want to become sport leaders

• Are current sport leaders

• Are not interested to become leaders in sport
