What’s Happening

This month marks the 88th Birthday of "the one and only, Patsy Cline". I missed doing my usual round of Patsy shows where I normally get to see and perform with other artists such as, The Hank and Patsy Birthday Show at Canterbury Country. However I did mark the occasion with a Facebook live stream show on September 8th. This was an extra ticketed show on top of my usual Sunday live streams. Thank you to those of you who continue to support my FB live stream shows week after week. It really means a lot.

I was thrilled to be asked to do a real, live gig at Django Bar which is in the same complex as The Camelot Lounge where I have performed my Patsy Cline show several times. In this show I will be singing the Honky Tonk Blues which means not just Patsy but some of my other favourite honky tonk songs as well as some of my own! I can't wait to sing with the best honky tonk musicians around - Zane Banks (guitar), Jy Perry Banks (pedal steel), Captain Rekless (bass) and Gary Goldstein (drums). This will be a chance for me to perform my latest single, Nice To See You, with a live band. I will also be launching my new single, Time.

So don't miss out, book your tickets now!

My new single, Time, will be released on September 25th. Time is a song I wrote after I separated from my husband in 2017. It was a an emotional song to write and record but after putting it into the hands of the super-talented Michael Carpenter,  I am so happy with how it has turned out and I can't wait for you to hear it!

You can pre-save it now on itunes/apple music and spotify via the link below.

My Picks

If you can, get along to the Petty Nicks Show at Django Bar this Thursday night 17th Sept. Sophie Jones has an amazing voice and she'll be singing Stevie Nicks to Michael Carpenter's Tom Petty in an acoustic set. I've also got a ticket to MC and The Banks Brothers on Oct 4th back at Django Bar.

Butcher's Brew Bar continues to have weekly live music as well as The Gasoline Pony so be sure to check them out. They also have live stream shows.

Speaking of live steam shows, during this COVID period I've been enjoying Dani Young's work on The Celebrity Country Music Wiz each Tuesday night and The Midday Muster on Sundays.

Be sure to check them out.

The Big Question

Question 2: What is your favourite country song?

Michelle's Answer: This is a hard one because it depends on my mood but there is one song that I keep coming back to and it's "Highwayman" by the Highwaymen. Recently, I discovered the Highwomen's version which I also love.

Send me your answer to the Big Question by reply email and I'll put it in the next newsletter.

Answers to last month's Big Question from a few friends.

Q. Who was your favourite country artist growing up?

  • ...while I am still probably ‘growing up’

music wise, I would probably have to say Marty Robbins and or Johnny Cash.

Two songs have great memories for me...

Big Iron and Come in Stranger.

...really difficult to narrow it down when there were people like Don Gibson, Johnny Horton, Kitty Wells and Patsy Cline etc; around in those days.

  • The 1st album I can recall was Slim Whitman's Favourites with the likes of China Doll, Cattle Call and Indian Love Call. Living in our small town (pop 1200) meant knowing what you wanted, then ordering through the newsagency and checking regularly to see if it had come in. The 1st live show I recall was Slim Dusty and Joy McKean at the local town hall in the mid 50's. Was booked to see him again in Tamworth in 2003, unfortunately that show was cancelled because of Slim's poor health.
