American Canyon Arts Foundation, January 2020

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DINNER - JANUARY 26

Each year in January, we hold our annual Membership Dinner Meeting. At this meeting we present the annual report and elect Board Members to fill any open seats.  In addition, we try to include a program or guest speaker to make it an educational opportunity as well as a good chance to meet ACAF members in a casual setting.

We have invited a representative from the Arts Council Napa Valley to speak to us about ACNV's programs, including their Creative Directory, and hear their insights on Art in Napa Valley.

This year we're excited to announce that our meeting will be at the new Laso Restaurant, located at 101 Antonina Ave. in American Canyon.  We'll meet at 6pm for networking and dinner will start at 6:30.  The business portion of the meeting will start after dinner, followed by our guest speaker.

The cost is $45 for members and $55 for non-members.  RSVP by Tuesday, January 21. You can RSVP/pay online or download the form and mail it to ACAF.

Boutique Recap

Now that the 2019 Holiday Boutique is over, we want to report the results.  Overall, the Arts Foundation made almost $1700 from the operation, most of it from the sale of See's Candies.  We had over a dozen crafters, selling Christmas Cards, Jewelry, Art, Photography, and Air Ferns, just to mention a few items.

Our best night was the Reception/Open House that was held on December 13.  Clarence Mamaril played music for the crowd and we had a wide variety of appetizers (some from local stores and a lot were home made!).

We want to thank R.H. Hess Development Company for graciously donating the space for our event.  In addition, a special thanks goes to Board Member, Jonette McNaughton, for overseeing the operation and putting in the most hours!  President, Patti Krueger, helped with tracking sales and getting the first See's Candies delivery!

Two Art Shows Announced

The Arts Foundation is announcing two art shows.

The first is our annual Art Extravaganza (pictured above is our 2018 Best of Show winner, Janice Petersen).  Although it is our oldest annual event, we are making some big changes in the format, based on feedback from our members.  It will be more of a community art show, in which we limit the number of entries, but all entries are included in the show.  We will still have judges to critique the artwork and give awards for First, Second and Third Place, as well as Best of Show.

The Extravaganza will be held at the City's Community Gym, 100 Benton Way, American Canyon.  Not only will we have art, but we plan to invite musicians to play, crafters to show their work and some creative ways to provide food and drink for our patrons.  It will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26.

The Call For Art will be out very soon and we will generate a special edition of The Informer when it is ready.

The second is our Youth Art Show.  This is something we haven't done for several years, and it is part of our effort to reach out to our younger artists.  It will be a one-day show, March 21, in the Boys & Girls Clubhouse, 60 Benton Way.  Our show will be part of the City's Spring Celebration, and we will also host our traditional Chalk Art event as well.

We will divide the artists into three divisions:  Elementary, Middle School and High School, and provide awards to the top three in each division and category.  Students will be able to enter their single best artwork. For more information, contact us at AmCanArts@gmail.com.

Both shows will also include a Silent Auction, since both shows are part of the Foundation's fund raising efforts.  We are actively soliciting items to auction, such as wine, trips and other items.  If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution, please email us at AmCanArts@gmail.com.
