Dear Friends, Members, and Colleagues, The President’s Book Awards submission period has finally come to a close. To all those who entered, congratulations on your accomplishments! Now I’d like to explain what happens next. Over the next few weeks, our judges will be diligently reading and scoring dozens of last-minute submissions. Then, all the scores will be tabulated and our winners will be identified. All entrants will be notified of their status by email in June, and a list of winners will be published in our June newsletter. Everyone on that list will receive either a gold, silver, or bronze medal at the awards ceremony! We will not have a bimonthly membership meeting in May. We are working on one for July, so look for more information in our July Newsletter and on our social media sites. Do you have the time, skills, and willingness to serve on our board? FAPA is an organization that is run entirely by a volunteer Board of Directors. The board currently has several vacancies and we are seeking nominations to fill them. Each member who serves on the board makes a valuable contribution to the writing and publishing profession. Ginger Marks is the chair of our nomination committee. She is seeking information on those who are interested in becoming a member of the Board of Directors. An application to become a board member is already on our website. Click on Directory, then Board of Directors, and scroll down to the bottom of the page. New board members will be voted into office at our annual board meeting held on Friday, August 2, in conjunction with FAPACon 2024. Those members who are unable to attend the conference may vote via email in July. As our conference grows nearer, this is the last opportunity to purchase a sponsorship or place an ad in the program. Check out the pricing on our website or contact Shena at tashena.place@myfapa.org. I hope to see all of you at FAPACon 2024. |

Congrats to Camille Klump! We are delighted to announce that one of our members recently received recognition from the city of Oldsmar on March 26th, 2024. Mayor Dan Saracki had the honor of presenting her with the Council Manager's Award of Recognition for January and February 2024. This esteemed event took place at the Oldsmar Council Chambers, situated at 101 State Street, Oldsmar. During the ceremony, two of her children's books, The Oyster Garden and A Simple Seagrass, were prominently featured. Both of these literary works eloquently shed light on the pressing issue of climate change affecting Tampa Bay. The acknowledgment of her efforts in conservation through this award is a testament to her dedication to this cause. In the previous year, The Oyster Garden was awarded a prestigious bronze medal at the FAPA book competition, further highlighting the merit of her work. Endorsements from notable figures such as Peter Clarke, the president of Tampa Bay Watch, and Mayor Saracki, who have also contributed forewords to her books, underscore the significance of her contributions. We are proud to announce that both of these exceptional books are now on display and available for purchase at the Discovery Center in St. Petersburg, FL. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to her for this well-deserved recognition of her literary accomplishments. It is truly an honor for us to celebrate her achievements, and we are excited to share this remarkable news with our community. |
