Immortal Trees Bookshop weekly newsletter: Issue 5 Friday, June 2, 2023 |

We knew when we first started the idea of opening a bookshop that there would be lots of positives: being our own bosses, not grading essays, and of course, hanging out with books all day. We didn't figure in the added bonus of meeting so many truly wonderful people. I watched a video of a bookshop owner who was giving her tips and tricks to potential bookshop owners, and she said, "Everyone who walks through your door wants to be there" and so far, she was right! We meet people daily who bring joy into our shop, always offering positive feedback and well-wishes for success. It is an incredible compliment when someone says they feel welcome or that our store feels like "home", but my favorite comment is when someone says, "You're my people." I can't say it enough: many, many thank yous to all of you for supporting us. Your kindness and patronage keep our doors open and our hearts light. Happy Friday! |

Editor's last words: June's Hidden Theme |
I was looking through the weird holidays and the awareness anniversaries for June and started to see a pattern. June is: - Pride Month - Helen Keller Deafblind Awareness Week (around June 27, her birthday) - Children's Awareness Month - Learning Disability Week (June 19th-25th) - Tiananmen Square Anniversary (June 4) - World Day Against Child Labor (June 12) - Juneteenth (June 19) Can you see what these dates all have in common? They are all about human rights. Each group of people represented by these holidays have struggled to feel equal, heard, and valued. Maybe you are a part of one of these groups, or a group not listed but the struggles are similar. We try to have representation of each of these groups (when we can get our hands on books with those topics), but we are always looking for ways we can help people feel wanted and represented. If you see a place for us to grow, please let us know. Also, as natural collectors of stories, Amy and I are always interested in yours. If you are represented in one of the anniversaries above (or even one during a different month) and you want to share your story, we would love to hear it. We value you. ~ Charity and Amy (and Jack and Toothless) |
