Finding Your Summer Bliss

While the summer sun might be hiding behind the clouds a bit more this year, there's still beauty to be found in these cool and wet days. Here at Taylor Made Therapy, we understand that even with a change in the weather, stress can creep in. We're dedicated to helping you stay grounded and manage stress throughout July, no matter what the forecast brings.

St. Swithin's Day 15th July

A Shower of Folklore (and Maybe Rain)

Legend whispers that if the skies weep on St. Swithin's Day, they'll continue to cry for forty days. Whether you believe the folklore or not, there's a certain charm to a rainy day.

St. Swithin, a 9th-century bishop of Winchester, supposedly requested burial outdoors – exposed to the elements. Ironically, on the day his remains were moved indoors for a grander tomb, a downpour commenced, lasting for forty days. This historical oddity fuelled the legend, transforming St. Swithin into a kind of "rainy saint."

So, if raindrops grace your window today, embrace the spirit of St. Swithin! Perhaps it's a reminder to appreciate the life-giving power of rain, or simply a nudge to curl up with a good book and enjoy the cosy atmosphere.

Remember, a positive outlook can make even a rainy day a delightful chapter in your summer story.

5 Self-Care Practices for a Balanced Summer

Summer! Sunshine, holidays, social get-togethers – it's a time for fun and relaxation. But amidst the hustle and bustle, it's easy to neglect ourselves. We want you to have a truly balanced summer, one that nourishes your mind, body, soul and spirit.

1. Schedule Self-Care, Not Just Social Events

Summer calendars can fill up fast. Block out dedicated time for self-care activities you enjoy, whether it's reading a book in a park, taking a relaxing bath, or spending time in nature.

2. Embrace Movement, but Listen to Your Body

Physical activity is a mood booster, but resist the pressure to overdo it. Choose activities you enjoy, like swimming, biking, or gentle yoga. Listen to your body's cues and take rest days when needed.

3. Unplug and Recharge

Technology can be a constant drain. Set boundaries for screen time and carve out tech-free zones. Take a walk in nature without your phone and enjoy the present moment.

4. Connect with Loved Ones (But Prioritise Quality)

Summer is a great time for social gatherings. But prioritise quality over quantity. Focus on spending meaningful time with loved ones who energise you, rather than attending every event.

5. Practice Gratitude

Taking time to appreciate the good things, big and small, can significantly boost your mood. Start a gratitude journal or simply pause each day to reflect on what you're thankful for.

  • Bonus Tip

Don't be afraid to say no! It's okay to decline invitations that don't align with your self-care goals.

By incorporating these practices, you can create a summer filled with joy, relaxation, and a renewed sense of well-being.

Setting Healthy Boundaries for a Balanced Summer

Recently, we published a blog post delving into the importance of setting healthy boundaries The invisible lines that shape our lives Learn valuable tips on protecting your time and energy, allowing you to have a more fulfilling and joyful summer.

Wellbeing Wisdom

Ground Yourself for Stress Relief

Feeling overwhelmed by summer plans, unexpected events, or simply the change in routine? Take a moment to ground yourself specifically for these challenges. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Feel the rise and fall of your chest with each inhale and exhale. Alternatively, try wiggling your toes in the sand at the beach (if possible!), feeling the coolness of the grass beneath your feet in the park, or simply listening to the birds chirping, even if it's a rainy day. These mindful practices can help you reset, manage stress more effectively, and navigate the ups and downs of summer with greater ease.
