Episode 66: INXS Album Cover Countdown

INXS have always taken great pride in their cover art, liner notes and image shots for each album release. With icons of the industry like Nick Egan and Pierre Winther playing a huge part in capturing timely images, INXS were definitely image innovators.

So today it’s you, the INXS Podcast fans and wider fan community, that get to vote for what album cover resonated with you then and now as we count down from 11 to 1, in rank of the best INXS studio album cover/art work.

We also continue our new segment “fun facts in music” with Bee whilst also hearing her long overdue list of Pleasures and Pain from 1993. Oh yeah, I hear the volcano is about to erupt with a Mount Vesuvius-type explosion of “The Rant” spilling over the airwaves.

That and a whole lot more as we get “our Kicks on Route 66” episode on the only weekly podcast dedicated to INXS.

Peace and love,

Haydn

The new episode drops on Sunday, 29 August. INXS Access All Areas is available on Podbean, iTunes, Spotify, TuneIn, and Amazon Music.

What do you think is the best INXS studio album cover? Let us know by voting on our site! Votes will be tabulated Friday, 27 Aug. at 23:59 Australian Eastern Standard Time.

Pleasure and Pain Spotify Playlist

by Ali Law

INXS AAA’s Bee and Haydn inspired me to create my own playlist after listening to the really fun and entertaining segment Pleasure and Pain on their podcast—songs they love and those not so much! They both have so much fun creating their P&P lists and presenting their songs with many giggles that I just had to create my own with some of their fantastic choices thrown in. INXS AAA not only inspires with all things INXS but entertains, enriches and enlightens in many areas of music taking the listener on a journey of fun, facts, and nostalgia. Pure pleasure!

This Week In INXS History

Monday, 28 August 1989

The first single off of the self-titled Max Q album, “Way of the World,” was released on 28 August 1989. The B-side was “Zero 2 0” (Todd Terry mix).

“Way of the World” was nominated for two ARIA Music Awards in 1990: ARIA Single of the Year and Breakthrough Artist – Single.

Max Q was a collaboration between Michael Hutchence and post-punk musician Ollie Olsen. According to a review in Sassy magazine, “INXS fans will... be familiar with Michael’s cool vocals, although they’re a little grittier than usual” (Feb. 1990).

For more on Max Q, listen to Episode 31: The Max Q Review from December 2020.

In Memoriam: Charlie Watts

(2 June 1941 – 24 August 2021)

“I wanted to play drums because I fell in love with the glitter and the lights, but it wasn't about adulation. It was being up there playing." –Charlie Watts

This week we lost one of the truly great rock & roll drummers of all time, Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones. The INXS Access All Areas Team sends our condolences to Mr. Watts’ loved ones.
