December 2023: Volume 1, Issue 4

🪴 Linda's Letter 🔭

What an amazing November! My mini book tour through North Carolina was incredible. I met the kindest, most supportive people, and even had an author event in a planetarium! It was a month full of science outreach events, book signings, and speaking engagements. I was even on PBS NewsHour with John Yang! Oh, and one more thing... I MET NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON!

My book was accepted into the Prince William Public Libraries collection, and later this month I'll begin visiting Title I schools to share STEM with kids like me. Please go to LindasLab.org to purchase a donation copy for public libraries and Title I schools! These copies go where they are needed most, and your donation can make an impact on our youngest future scientists!

In other book news... Linda and the Mysterious Footprints has sold OVER 1000 COPIES! It was a really BIG goal for a first time indie author, and I wouldn't be here without every single one of you! What should our next goal be? 5000 copies sold? A copy in every public library system? Or every public school system? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Holidays from Linda's Lab! I hope this year was everything you dreamed it could be!

Be brave and dream big!

What can YOU do

to reduce your carbon footprint?

DRIVE AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE!

With Tesla's Cybertruck in the news right now, everybody is talking about electric vehicles! Electric cars produces ZERO tailpipe emissions, drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions. And making the switch can also save you time and money! Local, state, and federal incentives can reduce the cost, and you'll save on fuel and maintenance, too! In some states, electric car owners can even go solo in the HOV lanes!

YOU can make a difference!

The Box Turtle Connection

After our book tour in North Carolina, this is the perfect month to highlight the Box Turtle Connection, an ongoing long-term study of these amazing creatures conducted by the University of North Carolina. According to their website, the Box Turtle Connection's purpose "...is to learn more about the status and trends in Box Turtle populations, identify threats, and develop strategies for long term conservation of the species." What a wonderful purpose!

Here's a riddle for you:

When is it OKAY to cut down a tree?

When it's the holday season and you're bringing home a Christmas Tree! Every year, Christmas tree farms struggle against the ever increasing popularity of fake trees. 90% of these fake trees are shipped from China, increasing carbon emissions, and they eventually end up in landfills because they are not recyclable. And I know it sounds strange to say you should cut down a tree, but in this case... YES! Christmas tree farms reduce carbon emissions, increase the overall number of trees due to planting practices, and prevent more land from being cleared for commercial projects. Learn more at

The Nature Conservancy.
