NEWS & VIEWS

RESTORATION OF THE CHALICE The chalice, containing the precious blood of Christ, is again being presented to communicants; the first time here since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. Please do not intinct (dip) the host in the chalice. The Church teaches that receiving communion in one kind only - the consecrated bread - is perfectly acceptable; you should not feel compelled to take the chalice.

CORPUS CHRISTI next Sunday we give thanks for Christ’s real presence in the bread and wine of the Eucharist. Please bring rose petals and aromatic herbs to be strewn the path of the procession of the Blessed Sacrament, releasing their fragrance to remind us of the great gift of Christ in our midst.

REGULAR FINANCIAL GIVING – we are waiting for a new card machine (for one-off donations) to arrive. In the meantime, one-off donations can be made by scanning the QR code below. It makes our administrative burden much, much easier, though if your giving to the church could be regular and done by our new planned giving scheme. This scheme gives you total control over how much you give and when, and you can change/cancel it at any time online or by phone. You don’t even need to deal with your bank! Please would you consider joining this scheme? – it would really be a big help to us! Follow this link for more information: https://tinyurl.com/parish-giving

ST MARY’S OFFICERS Congratulations to all who were elected or appointed at the recent APCM, especially Keith Jeffery who was elected Churchwarden. Margaret Quinney will work alongside Keith as Acting Churchwarden for the time being. Arthur Dike and Emma Jeffery will serve as Deputy Churchwardens. We are delighted that Allen Bennett will serve on the PCC, and that Manny Osuji will be our Treasurer, succeeding Michael Mann. The full list of officers can be found on the notice board in the porch. Our first new PCC is tomorrow evening. Please pray for us.

BARBARA IGGULDEN, RIP The Funeral Requiem for Barbara will be in St Mary’s at 10.30am on Tuesday 28 June followed by committal at noon at Forest Park, Hainault. On a date in July to be arranged, Barbara’s ashes will be interred with those of her husband Steve in Buckingham Rd cemetery, very close to the churchyard. Please continue to pray for Jonathan, Barbara’s son. Jesu mercy, Mary pray.

WHO AM I: WHY AM I HERE? – moving forward together as a church family
Today’s listening together theme (announced at the APCM) to help us move forward positively into the future as a church family, is Who am I: Why am I
here? This may sound a like a big and philosophical question, but what we’re thinking about this week, is as a member of St Mary’s, who am I when I’m in church and why do I come (or not come!) to church. In your pew sheet you will find some slips of paper. Have a go at writing 10 words that describe who you are when you are in church, and another 10 words describing why you come or don’t come. This can be anonymous. Please then put your slips in the box at the back of church before you leave today. Fr Gareth will be talking more about this during his address today.
