DRIVER'S SCHOOL

THIS SATURDAY, MAY THE 4TH (BE WITH YOU)

CKRA will be hosting a driver's school this Saturday from 9:00am to 2:00pm.  There will be several members on hand to help new drivers begin to improve their on-track racing skills and to gain an understanding of some universal truths (and myths) about karting.  Below is a general outline of the event.

  • 9:00 am - gates open
  • 10:00 am - School's in session (have your karts ready)
    • small group track walks with coaches
    • on-track practice sessions
    • feedback from driver to coach, and coach to driver
    • on-track practice sessions (change something based on feedback)
    • feedback from driver to coach, and coach to driver

Cost will be $45 and will include practice once school is out (from 2-7).

YAMAHA VS. IAME: CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?

There have been rumors floating around that Thompson Kart Raceway is switching to all IAME motors this year.  THIS IS NOT TRUE.  The Board of Directors has had several requests to run the IAME Swift motor in the Jr. Sportsman class as well as the KA100 in the Junior Class.  In response, we will conduct testing early this season with several drivers in the Junior Sportsman and Junior ranks. The plan is to run the same driver in the same kart on the same day.  The driver will run a few sessions using the Yamaha KT100 and a few sessions running the respective IAME motor.  Times will be recorded and compared.  Weight and/or restrictor rules will then be determined and re-tested by the same drivers in an effort to find parity.

As a "Club Racing Facility," it is our goal to be as inclusive as possible without fragmenting age groups.  While many members would like to run these newer IAME motors unencumbered, it is simply cost prohibitive for our new members who are not ready to invest in this equipment until they know they or their child is going to stick with it.  Kart Racing is the foundation of motorsports, and Club Racing is the foundation of Kart Racing.

It is our position that we would rather have 6-10 new and veteran karting families race together in the same class than have 2 or 3 karts racing in separate classes only to get bored and quit because the numbers aren't there.  We will keep you updated as we have more information.

BUCKEYE KARTING CHALLENGE: RACE 2 AT TKR

The 2019 Buckeye Karting Challenge will travel to Thompson Kart Raceway for race two of the five race series.  BKC will be at Thompson on Memorial Day weekend, May 25th and 26th.  TKR will host practice on Saturday.  Race One of the BKC saw 166 entries at G and J Kartway in Camden, OH.  It should be a great weekend with lots of on-track competition for all.  Further details will be available on our website soon. You can also visit buckeyekartingchallenge.com for more information about the series.

CHECK YOUR HELMETS

SNELL K2015 HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE LIST

We all have the responsibility to keep ourselves and our children safe.  One of the most important safety items we have are our helmets.  It is the policy of CKRA and our insurance company that ALL helmets meet the current SNELL or SFI rating as written in the 2019 WKA Technical Manual.  Please check your helmets and confirm that you and/or your child is wearing a properly SNELL/SFI rated helmet.  See the table to the right to check the legality of your helmet.

TECH SAVVY PEOPLE NEEDED

We are looking for some tech savvy club members to come learn the computer systems being used at our track.  We currently have only one member doing all of our technology setup, operation, and problem solving. We need a few more people so that we can ensure smooth operations at all of our races and to allow our current tech specialist to enjoy his days at the track along with the rest of us. Please see Doug Marsh or Lee Lindstrom to get involved.

MEMBERSHIP FORMS AVAILABLE ONLINE

To make things easier on day one, please consider filling out and printing the Championship Kart Racing Association (CKRA) membership form before coming to the track.  This will speed up your registration process on your first race day and allow you to focus on racing rather than paperwork. You can find the membership form on our homepage at thompsonkartraceway.com/ckra
