INSIDE HLC - Fall 2023

Thank you for your continued support of HLC! We had a wonderful time at the end of September celebrating the opening of our new facility. At the celebration just over $2,000 was raised for the scholarship fund and an entire box truck was filled of donations for Good Stuff Thrift! A special thank you to Good Stuff for being a major financial contributor for us. We could not have done the expansion without them!

This September we started with 24 students across three groups, 8 of which are new to HLC! Our newly formed Community Group will be a place for students to move into when they feel they are ready to leave our more structured weekly groups. It is our desire to always provide a place for students to have community and come together.

A highlight for us is spending time with our parents at our monthly parent group and workshops. With these touchpoints we get more ideas for program expansion and learn where our families need support as their young adult transitions to college or a career and becomes independent.

Anne, Tyler and I are excited to have a variety of speaking opportunities coming up where we can continue to talk about our program and provide HOPE for families.

We are looking forward to a great year!

COMMUNITY: Hope Grew!

The weather cooperated and we had a wonderful Hope Grew event on September 30. This was a celebration event and a time for everyone to see the newly expanded facility. Throughout the event we enjoyed coffee from Brig 'O Doons Coffeehouse, donuts and apples from Tabora farm, music by JS Country, lunch from Chick-fila, and support from Dublin Fire Department, Hilltown Township Police Department and Passerini Construction for the Touch-a-Truck experience. Our event sponsor was Applewood Enterprises. We are so thankful for the wonderful community surrounding HLC.

L to R: Alex Wilwert, J.A. Wilwert Custom Carpentry; Scott Passerini Jr., Passerini Construction Co.; Steve Fortner, Good Stuff Thrift; State Representative, Shelby Labs; Tyler Haney, Steve Haney, Marie Haney.

Students Jason, Emily and Joseph did an outstanding job managing the Good Stuff collection! We had a FULL box truck thanks to your generous support. Items donated to Good Stuff directly support HLC.

Thank you to everyone who contributed a beautiful raffle basket. Over $2,000 was raised for our Hope Scholarship Fund!

SKILLS: Volunteering!

This year we have added volunteering into our curriculum for our students. Volunteering provides community as students work together and give of their time. They are connecting with the community at large as they learn about different businesses and job opportunities that may be available to them. Skills are being developed as they try different jobs in these welcoming environments.

The first volunteer experience for Group 1 was at Living Hope Farm in Harleysville.

Students removed plastic from the onion fields in preparation for getting the ground ready for next spring. We only saw a few snakes!

They also pulled the tiny weeds around rows and rows of emerging strawberry plants.

Thank you, Saint Rocco's, for having our Group 2 students out for their first volunteer experience!

Students stamped and labeled bags to get them ready to be filled with product for the next day's orders. They completed over 1,000 bags in less than two hours!

Students also got to hear

how the business was started by two local brothers and how the dog treats are made

and sold.

CONNECTIONS: Bucks County Intermediate Unit Transition Fair

Tyler and Marie had the privilege of representing HLC at the county's recent transition fair. Area families affected by disability were able to get information on post secondary education options, employment opportunities, independent living information, and other community resources and support. It was also an opportunity for us to network with other businesses and professionals.

Good Stuff Thrift Collections

We will continue to collect for the Good Stuff stores over the winter months. Please contact us if you have a house sale or large clean out that you may need pick up for. We are happy to help! You are always welcome to drop off your items yourself at any of the Good Stuff locations. Visit their website for information.
